A New Declaration Of War: Will Anything Change?
Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, al Qaeda’s man in Iraq, says today’s horrible bombings are the beginning of all-out war with the nation’s government and Shiites. What does it mean, if anything? Surely al-Zarqawi was already engaged in all-out war, so materially, it means little. Psychologically, though, this move may just backfire: moderate Sunnis have to realize that in a civil war with the Shiites, they will lose. Surely, then, the pressure will increase on them to reach a power-sharing agreement before all is lost. And if the Sunnis get on board, the terrorists will have no safe harbor…except for Syria. Therein lies the rub, and on that front, the Bush administration is taking a stronger stance recently. Does anyone doubt that this statement is a sign of increasing nervousness in Damascus?

“today’s horrible bombings are the beginning of all-out war”
apparently al-Zarqawi reads kos.
