Well, we all have our fun, but of course, Iraq is deadly serious. Christopher Hitchens is now an American, thank you, and of course we are a country of immigrants. I refer to him because of his erudition and lucidity. I think you are being intentionally obtuse when you mischaracterize my statement about armchair generals. I think it fairly obvious that my meaning is that those who claim you, or a close relative, must actually fight in Iraq to have an opinion on it is a rather silly argument to make, and I've now wasted precious time that I said I wouldn't...

You just agreed with the anti-war supporters that the so called armchair arguments for war are specious. They are hollow, a sham, just smoke and mirrors. Explaining pro-war views through the lucid presentations of two debating idiots from England is disappointing. It is expected, however, since this government will never give a credible explanation. From the start, there has not been a rationale about this war that merits fighting and dying in Iraq. This debate will not be resolved. Maybe, instead, we should continue making fun of people that at least have some convictions.

Sorry, the armchair general argument is specious and I won't waste my time fighting a straw man...if you really want an argument for the war, I refer you to Christopher Hitchens again, and his quite lucid presentation against the oafish George Galloway...

Well Mark and Knemon, I would appreciate your subtle and incisive analyses of the justifications for the war in Iraq. Please avoid the discredited rationales, “noble causes” and patriotic stuff. I want you to convince us that there is an overpowering motive for urging a relative or ourselves or YOU to volunteer to go fight THIS war.

"The reason we are in Iraq is that our Leader saw too many cowboy movies and listened too long to the bunch of crackpots in his administration who made him think it would be a slam dunk to invade Iraq."

The subtle, incisive analysis ... my reason is overpowered ... I have seen the light!

For lack of a reason to discredit the anti-war demonstrators, Hitchens resorts to framing them as unpatriotic and Israel haters. His metaphors are idiotic. While writing his diatribe he must have been swimming in his self-described swamp with the fish and mosquitoes and had his judgement clouded either by staying too long under water and becoming deprived of oxygen and/or having too long of an affair with the cordial. The best thing happening for Israel is having Ariel Sharon as its leader. He has the cojones to make good things happen in his country. Israel does not need the help or "advice" of the inept and corrupt "protector" administration in the United States.
The reason we are in Iraq is that our Leader saw too many cowboy movies and listened too long to the bunch of crackpots in his administration who made him think it would be a slam dunk to invade Iraq. Bush-1 was smarter in avoiding a war. I wish he had hammered some sense into his son. ALL our young soldiers have died, and will continue to die, in Iraq for a completely useless, unnecessary, and badly managed war. It is appalling to see some of the Pro-War parents, who have lost a son in Iraq, claim they would let other children go to THIS war to serve as cannon fodder. There is no other reason people to believe this other that they are well meaning fanatics who have been completely brain-washed with the Republican propaganda of patriotism and right wing religious crap. Sheep like these is what the Republicans feed on, to send them to war, and to get elected. This war has nothing to do with fighting terrorists in their lands instead of ours. Had Katrina been a terrorist attack our vaunted homeland security team would have been just as inept in dealing with the initial response. War mongers instead, of discrediting the anti war movement, and if they believe that Iraq is a matter of national survival, should volunteer for fighting in Iraq. Your local recruiter would be very happy. However, I suspect that you are not as stupid as you appear, and like our esteemed Republican leaders just want other people’s sons and daughters go to war.
