Well, it looks like Bono won’t have to worry about wearing that Astros cap after all. My fellow Texans have stunk it up, but good, this World Series. Before we bid goodbye to the boys of October, though, I highly recommend the following very informative and entertaining piece on the 1919 version of the Astros’ opponent, forever to be known as the Black Sox for throwing the World Series. While you’re at it, rent the excellent movie ‘Eight Men Out’ if you’ve never seen it before (just be forewarned, it engages in a bit of mythology – but not too much, considering it’s a movie). I’ve always found stories about baseball to be far more interesting than the game itself…and it doesn’t get much more interesting than the 1919 Series…
