Yeah, Baby – 8-1!…
Texas Tech shook off some first-half miscues and dismantled Texas A & M in the second half to win 56-17 and go to 8-1 in front of a record crowd of 56,000 at Jones Stadium in Lubbock, with the only loss to number 2 (and probably the best team in the country, I’m now convinced) Texas. First thing to notice is that #16 is hardly high enough…this should move Tech back into the top ten, but realistically, they’ll probably only move to #13 or so. Great job, Red Raiders, on the best start in 29 years…
Virginia Tech and UCLA lost today, so now, a USC-Texas national title game is closer than ever – and I wouldn’t put my money on USC…

[...] Clearly, Texas Tech’s first three games of the year are coming back to haunt them, as at 8-1, the Red Raiders, as I predicted yesterday, only moved up to #13 in the latest AP poll, despite their 8-1 record. Why does it matter? Because a school like Tech will not get in at-large BCS bid, so their only chance is to be in the top 7…for that reason, I await the latest BCS poll tomorrow, but I predict even there we will only be number 11. We’re gonna have to win out, and hope for a few prominent teams to stumble (I’m talkin to you, Alabama – and you, too, Notre Dame). Otherwise, perhaps we can land the Cotton Bowl and still get a New Year’s game. [...]
