Wow, What A Scoop!
Over at the Huffington Post, Lyn Davis Lear, wife of ultra-liberal Norman, drops a bombshell – the GAO has confirmed the 2004 election was stolen! (Hilariously, the post is partially titled Paging Frank Rich – indeed!).
Of course, if the Huff’n'Puff is known for anything at all beyond its echo-chamber nature, it’s known for completely inaccurate information of the willfully deceptive sort, and this is no exception. What did the GAO say that got Mrs. Lear in such a tizzy?
The non-partisan GAO report has now found that, “some of [the] concerns about electronic voting machines have been realized and have caused problems with recent elections, resulting in the loss and miscount of votes.”
Wow – back up a minute (I know you’ve probably fallen over from the excitement) and read that again.
Only in the land of the incurable Bush hater could such a harmless statement be taken to be ‘proof’ that the 2004 election was stolen. But then, Mrs. Lear’s whole piece was lifted verbatim from Bob Fitrakis & Harvey Wasserman, two gentlemen who have made a career off of paranoid conspiracy theories regarding the two Bush victories. Here’s all you need to know about Mrs. Lear:
I had a chance to talk to my hero, Frank Rich, a few months ago about election fraud and he claimed he didn’t know much about it.
Lyn, what Frank doesn’t know could fill the Library of Congress – but thanks for letting us know he’s your hero, I think that’s proof enough of something right there – but I leave it to you to determine just what that something is…

That post pretty much encapsulates the Huffington Post. It’s pretty much exactly like you’d expect from one of Ariana’s cocktail parties, where one person in the corner starts ranting about her favorite hobbyhorse, and you’re put in the awkward position of smiling noncommitedly until you can divert her attention and escape the looniness. Simple politeness forbids coming right out and saying, “Lady, you are clearly out of your mind, and not particularly smart either, if you think what you’ve just said proves anything.”
BTW Mark, welcome back! You never know when someone goes to Vegas if they’ll ever return.
Thanks, Dennis…I am having a Vegas withdrawal, that’s for sure…
