More Signs of the Bush Comeback
He’s jumped 5 points in the latest CBS News / NY Times poll:
There is good news and bad news in this poll for President George W. Bush. Americans have become more positive about the economy; more than half think the economy is in good shape, an 8-point increase since October.
The President’s overall approval rating has risen from 35% in October to 40% now, and his ratings on handling the economy and the war in Iraq have also improved. But while this poll shows some improvement in Americans’ views about how the war in Iraq is going, most continue to say it is going badly. Americans remain firm in their desire for U.S. troops to at least start coming home, and would like to see a timetable for that process.
(hat tip to RealClearPolitics)…

Of course it can’t just be good news.
Oh well, a little sunshine is nice every now and then, no matter who provides it.
OT/ Howard Fineman may have managed to outdo himself:

The attack-the-Dems strategy already is having some success. “I’m afraid we’re going to tear ourselves apart over the war, just as we did over Vietnam” a prominent Democrat told me the other day. “I fear it is going to be 1968, and 1972, all over again.”
If that’s true, then Bush’s historical model for political survival ultimately won’t be Truman or Churchill, let alone Lincoln. It’ll be Richard Nixon.
Okay, because the Democrats are commiting political suicide, Bush is Tricky Dick?
This is insane–he is so eager to “get” Bush that in response to rising poll numbers all he can do is whine that Bush isn’t Lincoln.
That’s our Howard.
Boy, Fineman has really gone downhill, hasn’t he? I mean, he’s getting worse by the day…
Uh … but Nixon didn’t survive politically.
Knemon, that brings up the question: is Fineman being stupid or too clever for his own good?…
Did you see the internals on the poll?
Down a bit in the results, 65% of those surveyed expect that US forces ‘will’ remain beyond two years.
If this thing had the perception as ‘unwinnable’, I don’t think the number would be as high. Closest thing to a no-confidence vote for Murtha/Dean/Pelosi you can get….
