Iranian President: Holocaust Denial An Academic Issue
At first glance, to the uninformed, the President of Iran may seem to be speaking of the need for an open mind:
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s denial of the Holocaust is a matter for academic discussion and the West should be more tolerant of his views, Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman said on Sunday.
Ahmadinejad last week called the Holocaust a myth and suggested Israel be moved to Germany or Alaska, remarks that sparked international uproar and threaten diplomatic talks with Europe over Iran’s nuclear programme.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi defended the president’s remarks, which also drew a rebuke from the U.N. Security Council.
“What the president said is an academic issue. The West’s reaction shows their continued support for Zionists,” Asefi told a weekly news conference.
“Westerners are used to leading a monologue but they should learn to listen to different views,” he added.
What a load of…
Don’t you be fooled – we are all entitled to our own opinions, but we are not entitled to our own facts, as the saying goes. The idiotic aside about the West and its support for the Zionists speaks volumes. This is naked anti-Semitism of the worst sort…but at least Reuters has now acknowledged the veracity of the Holocaust:
Some 6 million Jews were killed by the Nazis and their allies between 1933 and 1945.
Nice to see the lack of qualifiers for once…

Did I read that right? The “it’s academic” characterization seems to include the ethnic cleansing of Israel.
Given Iran’s race for the bomb, that comment is anything but academic.
I also particularly liked: “The West is used to leading a monologue…” File that away in the Kettle-meet-Pot category.
Also… if you haven’t seen it, Charles Krauthammer discussed Iran’s “President” on Friday.
Here’s an encouraging sign – looks like his own people are going to try and take him out before the crisis reaches the endgame here…

Note their phrase describing the obvious assassination attempt as “bandits.” Suuurrre.
Don’t mean to clog up your comments section further, but Michael Ledeen knows more about this stuff than almost anyone I’ve read over the past few years…
