Some Good News

Well, it’s been a bit of a bummer the last few days, with Snoopgate and depressing news out of Iraq, so here’s a welcome pick-me-up: SCOTUS nominee Samuel Alito is now as popular as John Roberts was on the eve of his confirmation, with a majority of the public in favor of his approval. I have to disagree that this has, so far, been a bummer of a week. The administration has not given an inch on the NSA leaking scandal. Regardless of whether it was legal or not, we (the american public) get to see that the current President and current Administration will do whatever is necessary to protect us. We get to see his critics more concerned with the civil liberties of our enemies than with the lives of Americans. We saw the President pledge to do whatever is necessary to protect this nation, and now we know what he means by “whatever is necessary” as opposed to his critics’ definition. We’ve heard this week media critics comparing him to Lincoln and FDR, and trying to pass that off as a bad thing. Its never bad to be compared to FDR, and a President being compared to Lincoln, no matter what the context, is always a good thing. So, in my humble opinion, this week has been anything but a bummer.

  • Colin, yeah, you’ve got a point; I think it’s debatable how much of a scandal ‘Snoopgate’ will turn out to be; certainly Cheney thinks there will be a backlash toward the critics…

  • Alito is anything but good news!
