Don’t Hold Your Breath…
…waiting on THIS story to get much play on the lefthand side of the blogosphere:
Poland’s government says it has taken the “very difficult decision” to extend its military deployment in Iraq until the end of 2006.
The new conservative government’s decision reverses the previous leftist administration’s plan to pull troops out in early 2006.
Poland, a staunch ally of the US, has about 1,500 troops stationed in Iraq.
It is the fifth biggest foreign contingent in Iraq, after the US, Britain, South Korea and Italy.
How about that? 1,500 troops makes it only the fifth biggest contingent – hey, I thought we went to war unilaterally!
Someone’s not sticking to the script…

Most Poles are against involvement in Iraq. I don’t think there is any European country where public opinion supports sending or keeping troops in Iraq. None. Nada. Poland, probably the most pro-American country in Europe, is no exception.
Poland is proving a good ally in Iraq, and allowing them to take control of one section of the country played nicely to their vanity as a nation (they believe they are a big European power and want opportunities to demonsrate it). But don’t confuse this with popular support as a nation for what is happening in Iraq. It just isn’t there.
The reason Germany has always opposed the war was that it just “wasn’t big enough for them.”
…and you can bet that this story won’t receive much play in the MSM either, Mark.

Cognitive dissonance is a tough thing for some people to encounter, I guess.
Very interesting – thanks for the link…
