LONGHORNS WIN!!!!! NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!!!!!! WWWWWWHHHHHHOOOOOOAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!! Party in Austin TONIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I take back every last bad thing I ever said about Vince Young….

41-38, the Longhorns win their 4th national title, and first in 35 years…

I’m a Red Raider first, but I started at UT, and no one who lives in Austin can fail to be excited about this – wow wowo wowowowow woooowwwwoooowwww!!!!!!

The Austin American Statesman front page says it all

So often the big games don’t live up to the hype, but this one was an instant classic; one of the truly great college football games. Mack Brown has to feel vindicated, and Vince Young takes his place as one of the college greats…

APD riot officers are on hand on the Drag by the UT Campus, and no doubt at Sixth Street as well…let’s hope no one gets stupid out there…

Wow! I’m really stoked! Hell of a game!…

Nice front page at CNNSI

  • And then Matt Leinart says: “We’re still the better team. They just made some plays.” What an astonishing display of jackassery. Can he be Weekly Jackass?

  • Yeah, and compare that to Mack Brown, who went out of his way to congratulate the two-time national champs of USC with their fantastic 34-game winning streak…

Mack Brown is one of the classiest coaches in the game. I’m so glad he’s finally got a title.

So, if you had a vote to cast for the Heisman who would you vote for now? And, who do you think will be the more successful pro, Bush or Young?

As for Leinart, well, apparently he needs to learn how to be graceful in defeat. My high school soccer coach taught us to give our best and, regardless of the outcome, thank the other team for playing and congratulate them if they won. He was fanatical about this AND was not a guy who took losing lightly, at least as it related to us and our effort.

“They just made some plays”?!? Unh, yeah, that usually is the difference, isn’t it?

  • I’m tempted to say Bush would still be the more successful pro, because running back seems an easier position to succeed at – but then again, because of Young’s size, he’s got a chance…

Agreed. I think the other problem for Young (versus, say, Leinart) is that the linebackers and safeties in the NFL are a LOT nastier and hit a LOT harder – which ultimately mutes the effectiveness of such a multi-talented QB (a la Vick) and may also shorten his career. I’m thinking McNabb, Stewart, Cunningham, and Young as examples.

  • Matt Leinart did make an ass of himself after the game, but at least his comments could be understood. Does anyone have a clue what Vince Young was saying or what he meant to say after the game? I know he is young and he was excited, but Pro quarterbacks do need a little grey matter.

Did anyone catch the comment Craig James made in the middle of the forth quarter when USC was up by 12? He said something like, “Lyndale White is CLEARLY the best player on the field tonight.” Maybe he doesn’t deserve a Jackass award for the comment, but I still have to wonder if he was watching the same game as I was watching.

Of all of the BCS games, the hitting in the Rose Bowl seemed to be the least. Both offenses are all-time good, but I have to wonder if either team would run the table in the Big Ten or SEC due to the lack of aggressive defense.

What an exciting game. I think Young well outplayed Bush last night. I have to admit I gave up on UT late in the game. The fans got their moneys worth with those high priced tickets.

    Mark,
I’m here to eat my crow after yesterday’s prediction. Congrats to the Longhorns. That Vince Young is a phenominal athlete. All I can say is WOW.

Bush is a great running back, but he reminds me a lot of Gayle Sayers – once he got past the front lines, forgettaboutit. But, also like Sayers, he doesn’t look like an every – down back, ala Tiki Barber.

I’m also thinking he’s going to get injured once those NFL safeties get some clear shots on him – and they will, eventually. Just wait until he tries one of those high hurdles over oncoming defenders – he’ll get blasted right into the seats the first time he tries that trick.
