Ted Kennedy Hits Rock Bottom

I didn’t think I could lose any more respect for this slug – but I just did:

Kennedy (D-Mass) asked further hostile questions on CAP–the Princeton University concerned alumni organization that, among other things, opposed co-education at the university. Kennedy said he did not think Alito’s responses to the committee on CAP “add up.” Kennedy proposed issuing a subpoena to the owner of the organization’s records and go into executive session to do so.
Specter reacted angrily, asking why Kennedy had not [sic] brought this up in public as opposed to consulting with Specter on it in advance. Kennedy claims he sent Specter a letter. Specter, angrily, said he never got one.
“If you’re going to rule it [a subpoena] out of order, I want to have a vote on that,” Kennedy said.
“I take umbrage at you telling me what I received,” Specter said, with growing anger.
Kennedy: “I would appeal the ruling of the chair.”
Specter: “There’s been no ruling of the chair.”
Kennedy says he’s moving for an executive session and “we’re gonna have votes of this commlittee [sic] again and again and again” until Specter goes along.
Specter: “I’m not going to have you run this committee,” Specter said. “I will consider it in due course.”

Let Kennedy come out and call the Italian-America Alito a racist – let him call him a homophobe – but of course, he lacks the courage. He’ll carry the ‘progressive water’ just far enough to leave ugly insinuations out in the air, all the while hiding behind his pose of ‘grave concern’.

Kennedy is a disgrace…Mr. Manslaughter is ‘concerned’ about Alito’s forthrightness? Give me a break…

Can somebody please explain why the D-crats are so worked up over Alito’s membership in this Princeton club yet are unwavered in their support of fomer KKK Wizard Sen. Byrd. Is it then the D-crats opinion that membership in CAP is impeachable while membership in the KKK is forgivable?

  • JB, it’s worse than that; look at this guy turning your question upside down:

I always find it interesting how often republicans and conservatives bring up Sen. Byrd’s KKK membership way back in the day, but when memberships in similiar orgs like CAP are brought up then somehow it’s out of bounds.

As if it’s a given that this little student group at Princeton opposed to affirmative action was equivalent to the KKK! Outstandingly ignorant…

  • I just love the irony that Ted Kennedy keeps trying to smear Judge Alito by association to the male-only, elitist fraternity-equivalents at Princeton, the Eating Clubs.

The irony is in the fact that Judge Alito belonged to no such club during his time at Princeton, while Ted Kennedy, before he was expelled from Harvard, belonged to one of the identically male-only, elitist fraternity equivalents at Harvard, a Final Club.

  • too many steves

Ted Kennedy thinks he can credibly sit in judgement of Alito’s behavior and motivations? There is no decade, beginning with the 60′s, in which Ted Kennedy didn’t do something to embarress himself and his family. The man is beyond contemptible. And this includes setting aside the vast difference in their upbringing and how it is that they came to be in the respective positions we find them in today; Kennedy as the result of a life of priviledge and Alito the result of hard work.

As I said in an earlier post, this process is a farce. Now, as we know, every farce should have a clown and ours has done us the favor of self-identifying. Senator, take a bow!

  • The Alito Confirmation Hearings: Day 3

I’ve listened to about as much of the Alito confirmation hearings today as I can stand. Democrats continue to press the same issues over and over again and continue to receive the same responses. Republicans continue to respond with the same p…

  • Alito ‘The Untouchable’

Alito seems to be significantly more forthcoming than Roberts, and he is offering solid defenses of his prior decisions…Now Senator Kennedy wants to subpoena the records of CAP. Someone needs to explain to Kennedy that

  • I’m baaaack.

The Senate has confirmed Judge Sam Alito to the Supreme Court. No – wait – they haven’t? I read Monday’s and Tuesday’s transcripts of the confirmation hearings and the senators on the Judiciary Committee were doing so much bloviating and self-congrt…
