Nagin To Hillary: I Can Be A Bigger Idiot Than You

Hillary Clinton was not the only person to make a complete jackass of herself this MLK Day; as many of you have already commented, we had the spectacle of New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin:

“Surely God is mad at America. He sent us hurricane after hurricane after hurricane, and it’s destroyed and put stress on this country,” Nagin, who is black, said as he and other city leaders marked Martin Luther King Day.

“Surely he doesn’t approve of us being in Iraq under false pretenses. But surely he is upset at black America also. We’re not taking care of ourselves.”

Nagin also promised that New Orleans will be a “chocolate” city again. Many of the city’s black neighborhoods were heavily damaged by Katrina.

“It’s time for us to come together. It’s time for us to rebuild New Orleans _ the one that should be a chocolate New Orleans,” the mayor said. “This city will be a majority African American city. It’s the way God wants it to be. You can’t have New Orleans no other way. It wouldn’t be New Orleans.”

Wow…you can’t beat that for breathtaking stupidity…stunningly well played…

A small migratory bird landed on the railing of my deck this morning and stared at me while I ate breakfast (Cheerios w/raisins & milk – for the health of my heart). I will tell you that this type of bird is usually long gone toward southern climes by this time of year in the Boston area. Which should make it clear that god (I’m not sure which one) is very upset with me about the way I am currently conducting my life. I, therefore, have made a personal commitment to change my ways – not so much for me but for my beautiful wife and children. Now if I could only figure out the sort of change god wants me to make….

Perhaps the bird was merely staying away from the New Orleans portion of the south, for fear that it’s been cursed by God?

Even if he wins re – election next year, what exactly will he be the mayor of? 50,000 people, plus some tourist attractions in the French Quarter? Geez, that’s smaller than most of the suburbs around here in Chicago…

Don’t mean to change the subject of the thread here, Mark, but AP is now reporting that 4 – 5 prominent terrorists were eliminated during the missile strike in Pakistan.

  • I don’t think it was the work of God. Clearly, this is a direct result of Bush refusing to endorse Kyoto. :-D

  • dmac, thanks for the Pakistan link…I’ve been in meetings all day and I hadn’t seen it…

    dmac,
the corps of engineers currently puts NO at about 125,000+.
    mostly white.
    pre-Katrina it was 435,000, w/ 65% black.
nagin was elected mayor in 2002 with 90% of the white vote.
    here’s the bad part.
before running for mayor, nagin was………..a cable company sales rep.

  • Rebuilding New Orleans is a waste of tax dollars.
