Assad: Hey, Remember Me? I’m An Anti-Semitic Despot, Too!

Perhaps worried about all the attention being lavished on the Holocaust-denying Iranian president, and no doubt anxious to deflect attention from his government’s prominent role in murdering Lebanese politicians, Syria’s Bashar Assad threw out this gem to a no-doubt appreciative audience:

“Among the many assassinations that Israel has carried out in a systemic and organized manner, the most dangerous one was the assassination of Arafat,” Assad said, addressing a conference of Arab lawyers.

Assad, speaking in Damascus, added that “this was done secretly, under the watching eyes of the world. But no country responded – as if nothing had happened at all.”

Of course, it is the Palestinians who have kept the medical file of Arafat secret, for reasons that I’ll decline to speculate on here…
