Oh, Yeah, Baby…

I’m sitting here listening to an absolutely first-rate, um, ‘unauthorized’ recording of the U2 show I attended on October 28, 2005, at the Toyota Center in Houston that I recently obtained through completely proper channels. Now, I say this as someone who has several other such ‘unauthorized’ recordings from the Vertigo Tour…and let me just say…

The Houston show rocked ‘em all…period.

Rock on with your bad self…

The first time I saw the Dead was on April 17, 1971. I remember the day because I also took my SAT’s that day. My wife and I were recently at a friend’s house, and he pulled out a cassette of the concert I saw about 35 years earlier. Blessed are those who make surreptitious recordings.

  • Amen…the May 31, 1992, Dead show in Vegas is another of my favorite shows that I (a) attended, and (b) have a beautiful copy of…

  • Let’s see – April 17, 1971…

I’ve always thought the Dead were way ahead of their time in terms of their marketing – they figured out that allowing bootleg recordings would only help their concert and album sales in the long run.

I have a feeling that if Jerry was still alive today, he’d be the first to be doing Pod broadcasts of their live shows.

As you could imagine, I had a lot of time to kill between my SAT’s and seeing the Dead that night — so I went to Dillon Gym to pass the time — Garcia had recently bought a new steel guitar, so I had the pleasure of hanging out with a few other ne’er-do-wells and watching him play the guitar and drink a bottle of Jack Daniel’s –

    Oh, those halcyon days –

  • dmac, no doubt…peter, I knew because I cheated – I did a quick check of Deadbase…
