Conyers Scandal Simmering
Like a slow boil, this one will be – the AP has picked up on the ethics allegations against Rep. John Conyers:
Three former aides to U.S. Rep. John Conyers say the lawmaker used them as baby sitters and personal servants while they were supposed to be working in his Michigan offices.
The aides said that Conyers had them tutor and care for his two sons; help his wife, now-City Councilwoman Monica Conyers, with law studies; and drive him to political and private events.
Undeterred, Conyers has taken refuge in Kosland to promote his effort to have Bush impeached. Conyers appears tonight with Lewis Lapham for some event called “Man, I Really Hate George Bush” (I think I got that title right – but look it up for yourself)…

Mr. Lapham is of course an accomplished fellow. His abilities to time travel coupled with editorship of that flagship of probity, Harper’s, enabled him to report the racist, mysoginistic and just downright stupid antics at the New York Republican convention before they even occured! What this magesterial figure will pronounce on the above subject is, of course, unknowable to those WITHOUT his extra-temporal perceptions but I could, possibly, hazard a guess.
I remember when my favorite congressman here, Dan Rostenkowski (D – Chicago) was convicted of using the congressional post office for illegal fundraising activities.
If that penny – ante thing can get him into prison, it would appear that these activities are going to cause Conyers quite a bit of trouble.
