Have to give the man credit for the rapid build - up of the naval forces in the 80's, which had largely been eviscerated during the Carter years. We're still reaping the dividends of those years - witness the rapid response of our carrier battle groups to disasters like the Tsunami in Indonesia, as well as the 24/7 vigilance of the sea lanes across the world.

We spend an incredible amount of manpower and money to keep the world safe for commercial shipping, and to what kind of tribute and gratitude received from the rest of the Western World? Only indignation and apathy (not to mention not one red cent).
