McKinney Feeling the Heat
How else to explain the sudden about-face?:
Rep. Cynthia McKinney, D-Ga., expressed “sincere regret” Thursday for her altercation with a Capitol police officer, and offered an apology to the House.
“There should not have been any physical contact in this incident,” McKinney said in brief remarks on the House floor. “I am sorry that this misunderstanding happened at all and I regret its escalation and I apologize.”
McKinney’s comments came after the case had been referred to a federal grand jury for possible prosecution.
She had previously insisted she had done nothing wrong, and accused police of “racial profiling.” She is African-American and the police officer is white.
McKinney, 51, has a history of confrontations with officers.
One day, it’s all about race, and the next McKinney is sorry and apologizes – amazing what a grand jury referral can do!…

Wow, it just goes to show that reality invites herself to EVERY party, even that of the Reality Based Community.
Except for the words “I apologize” couldn’t the entire statement be read as saying that there shouldn’t have been any physical contact on the part of the police and that she regrets their escalating it to the grand jury? (I.E., I regret the police made so many mistakes and are taking this so seriously.) Or am I reading too much into this?
McKinney did not apologize. Not even close. She’s learned to use the word, without applying it to the cause of the incident — herself.
Being “sorry” for a “misunderstanding” ain’t quite the same thing. She’s sorry, alright…
Yep, agree with the above – the classic “non – apology” weasly statement applies here. Similar techniques of this method include the familiar “I’m sorry you/he/she feels that way,” followed up by the “I’m sorry if you/he/she misunderstood the situation.”
Contrite? Don’t think so.
