A Week Late and a Dollar Short

Ellen Goodman is saying bloggers owe Jill Carroll an apology – umm, Ellen, been there, done that – you’re gonna have to be quicker than this if you want to make an impact…

A true advertisement for an old media person who just ain’t getting it…

In my experience, this is not an uncommon occurance with Ms. Goodman. I usually read the “paper” in the morning when I get up and am sipping my coffee. I do this online rather than subscribing to the “dead tree” form of the publications. My personal choices are: Boston Globe (local paper), Washington Post, Wall St. Journal, and, occasionally, the NY Times. One thing that happens pretty frequently is this: I will read a headline and story and think “I read about that two days ago on the web, where have these guys been?”. This phenomenon is even more common with Op/Ed’s.

    Comrades,

I agree completely. It’s amazing the time lag between online news and the deciduous dailies. It’s also apparent that many local, and even some national television stations are also 2-3 days behind events. You have to wonder just what their reporters are doing if it takes that long to get the “news” into print. Maybe we should start referring to them as “olds?”

My local newspaper just yesterday ran an editorial about immigration reforms… yup… surprised they don’t deliver it with a horse-drawn buggy:)

    Respects,

    Gwedd
