A Tale Of Three Leaders

Good post by Tom Bevan at the RCP Blog on the intersection of the presidents of the U. S., France, and Iran regarding Iran’s nuclear ‘emancipation’, as Tom puts it. Highlight:

When George Bush says that “all options are on the table” regarding Iran, the world convulses like an MIT feminist listening to Larry Summers discussing gender differences. Jacques Chirac openly threatens nuclear retaliation against any state that launches terrorist attacks against France (i.e. Iran) and the world yawns.

Ah, the French – afraid to allow young people to be fired, but hot to trot out the nukes if they face their own 9/11…still, Chirac’s sudden location of a spine is welcome, even if ultimately unbelieavable (nuclear reprisals for a terrorist attack? Come, now…unless, of course, the attack itself were nuclear, and unequivocably state-sponsored)…

For anyone who despairs of the Bush Presidency, it is some small degree of consolation that at least we don’t have Jacques Chirac as our leader –

He could always threaten to throw some baguettes at them – thereby raising the Mullah’s cholesterol levels to unhealthy levels.
