It is not incongruous to acknowledge that these people (Halloway, St. Guillen, the Duke players & their accuser) have made bad decisions, fatal in the first two, while having tremendous sympathy for them and their families. Perhaps, and I suspect this is Ann Coulter's point, if we were to focus on both (acknowledgement of bad decisions & sympathy) we might reduce the incidence of these tragedies. We have all made bad decisions and done foolish things, doing so is part of being human. I would quibble with the notion that vulgarity is the problem. It's more like boneheadedness to me. But I guess you could argue the two are often the same. I mean, ther are victims who do everything right and still are caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, but it probably doesn't help us as a society not to acknowledge when victims brought on, or at least exacerbated, their predicament through monumentally stupid decisions.
