Fair Game For Plame

Poor Valerie! Outed by the evil neocons as she was on the verge of singlehandedly preventing a nuclear Iran, forced to attend lavish dinner parties on the legendary Conde Nast expense account dime, subjected to the humiliation of living sainthood…and now, the worst hardship of all – a 7-figure(!!!) book deal.

Life’s a bitc…er, that is to say, don’t cry for me, Pat Fitzgerald….

The prospects of Crown Publishing earning back those millions is exceedingly remote, however:

How much Plame, now retired from the agency, will reveal could be complicated by two factors: The CIA, which reviews the manuscripts of former agents and has reportedly become stricter about what it will permit, and next year’s scheduled trial of I. Lewis Libby, the former chief aide to Vice President Dick Cheney.

Libby is charged with perjury and obstruction of justice for lying to the FBI and a federal grand jury about how he learned about Plame’s identity and what he subsequently told reporters about her. Rove remains under investigation.

Ross acknowledged that Plame could be subject to CIA censorship, but said restrictions “would be a potential public relations land mine if the CIA was seen as trying to block” too much of her book. Commenting on Libby’s trial and any possible future indictments, Ross said that “Obviously, we would not want to publish anything that would jeopardize any important legal cases.”

Hmm…so remind me again why anyone would want to buy this book?…

  • Isn’t that payment just an advance? Can they ask for part of it back when they don’t sell?

If they can clear $10/book, they would have to sell a cool quarter of a million just to break even. Good luck! Michael Moore could pull that off, but she’s no Michael Moore.

  • Sandra

Who would even buy her book, there is not one thing she could write about that I would be interested in, that family is a disgrace, they have milked this so called leak about her for all they can, I will predict that her publishers will be so disappointed at the sales, all her buddies at CIA will probably be her only buyers,

  • “all her buddies at CIA will probably be her only buyers,”

I am not so sure about that. They probably know all the pieces that she can’t write about and are probably so bitter that she cashed out, while they are still trapped back in the office cleaning up the mess she (and her husband) left behind.

The story I want to read is her husband’s. Mainly because he will be skewered by his own words once he decides on the latest version.

When are these two clowns going to be investigated? This couple is probably more responsible for attempts to undermine our Government than anyone else.
