Bush Beats Gore and Kerry For Third Term

Hypothetically speaking…with the hat tip to the great Mickey Kaus and newsalert, we find that George W. Bush’s worst favorable ratings yet STILL, incredibly, outshine those of Gore and Kerry:

The political situation has not helped some of the more prominent members of the Democratic Party. Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts, who was Mr. Bush’s opponent in 2004, had a lower approval rating than Mr. Bush: 26 percent, down from 40 percent in a poll conducted right after the election.

And just 28 percent said they had a favorable view of Al Gore, one of Mr. Bush’s more vocal critics.

If a person were in the extrapolating mood, one might take away from those numbers some comfort in the notion that the Democrats will blow 2008 yet…

  • Well, if that’s the sort of hypothetical matchup you want to talk about, Clinton would win in a landslide.

I guess this is more entertaining than fretting over how long the brave 29% will hold out.

  • Hey, I say we shoot for the record and see if we can hit the single digits…

  • too many steves

What politician or party actually has a favorable rating these days? With the economy roaring along and no new terror attacks since 9/11 (just to mention a couple of broad positives) the results of these polls tell me that people’s opinions are fickle and superficial. Sure, gas prices are high, mortgage rates are climbing but I just don’t get the pessimism. Perhaps for our politicians and office holders this is a rebuke of their now long commitment to highly partisan carping and squabbling?

    Dunno. Don’t worry, be happy.
