Life In The Cocoon
The problems in America are, by any reasonable standard, overwhelmingly the Republicans’ fault.
One doubts that anyone would seriously deny this.
Remind me to never take anything Yglesias says seriously again (well, maybe not again – ever, perhaps)…

Even accepting the notion at face value, how come he doesn’t address the more serious question for his party? If Republicans have had the power and thus are to blame for all problems, how come voters aren’t turning to Democrats en masse? The only explanation he provides is that there’s just some anti-Democrat zeitgeist afoot that results from naughty Republicans going out and winning so many darned elections. I guess that’s more comforting than concluding that maybe voters don’t like what Republicans have done, and don’t have much love for the Democrats’ ideas either.
At my job, we have had a constant problem finding and retaining quality employees at the bottom rung who are willing to work for the salary offered (which, by the way, is almost double the minimum wage). Sadly, the employees who aren’t cut out for the job last longer than the ones who are, as the good employees are either quickly promoted or leave for better prospects elsewhere. I doubt that this is the kind of problem Bush or the Republicans would mind being blamed for.
