More Fallout From The Non-Indictment

The MinuteMan notes that Karl Rove’s attorney is not happy with the blogosphere:

Mr. Rove, Mr. Luskin said, had fallen victim to partisans and—more importantly—the bloggers who became their enablers.

“…That is a function of the tension that there is now between the mainstream media and the blogosphere. On the one hand, it seems to me that the CBS National Guard stories were the poster child for the principle that sometimes the blogosphere keeps the mainstream media accountable, and it seems to me that this story is, if you will, the poster child for the fact that the blogosphere is itself often not accountable, and that there are a universe of folks out there who have got personal or political agendas who were masquerading as news sources. That is just as destructive in its own way, or more than the mainstream media’s insularity is on the flip side.

Meanwhile, Marc Ash of truthout, the epitome of the type of site Luskin is referring to with its publication of the May 13th Jason Leopold story stating that Karl Rove had, unequivocably, ‘been indicted’, is in serious denial mode:

We have put our cards on the table. We invite Mr. Luskin to do the same.

To clarify: The entire basis for the information that “Rove has been cleared” comes from a verbal statement by Karl Rove’s attorney. No one else confirms that. As Karl Rove’s attorney Robert Luskin is bound to act – in all regards – in Rove’s best interest. We question his motives.

That’s not good enough for Jeralyn Merritt:

Truthout seems to be using Sealed Case 128 to justify not revealing Jason Leopold’s sources for his May 13 article reporting Karl Rove had been indicted.

Yes, there has been a sealed case 06cr00128 styled Sealed v. Sealed on the District Court’s docket (available through Pacer) since it was filed on May 17. It says “no further information is available” or something like that. It is still sealed, I’ve checked several times since then. If my handwritten notes are correct, it’s the only District Court criminal case filed between May 9 (case 122) and May 18 (case 131) that remains sealed.

But, I can’t agree with Truthout that sealed case 128 may validate Jason’s article and therefore justify not disclosing the sources who told them Rove had been indicted. Note, I said Truthout, not Jason. Jason was on Ed Schultz today (you can listen here) and made it clear that it is no longer his decision but his publisher’s (Truthout) whether to out his sources as he once promised he would do if the May 13 article proved false.

Marc Ash has his credibility on the line, such as it is. A complete retraction of the Leopold story is in order…

It is actually NOT the decision of the publishers whether to honor the declaration, not TOO lately made that the sources would be “outed” under these precise circumstances. The blogosphere offers vast opportunity to circumvent TruthOut or any other organ as Mssrs. Ash or Leopold or any other swinging dick to say whatever strikes their fancy. Actually if anyone proposed to launch a newsy blog, such an endeavor would guarantee an initial push of traffic that would be the envy of most obscurist bloggers to duplicate. Let me be succinct and plain here. The Lefties are liars, to a man (or woman of course). They care not a whit for consistency, ethics, fairness or truth whether they are at Truthout or TalkLeft or the WaPo or the NYT. They will lie, dissemble and deceive at ALL levels at EVERY opportunity. Hey, who can blame them? Without that Socialism, Communism and the New Deal would have sunk under the weight of their crimes and incompetence decades ago. NOW is the time, RedStaters. The beast is wounded and therefore at his most dangerous, but the crisis point is upon us. At every beer tap and dinner table in the land the advantage MUST BE PRESSED. Entertain no thoughts of mercy; such will only lead to a larger butcher’s bill in Iraq, Afghanistan and, God forbid, here at home. The political fight IS the GWOT, as, if we are unified rationally, NONE can stand against the combined might of the West on any plain. Do not, for the sake of “civility” refrain from taking your cousin to task for the logical end of his “arguments”. Fight, fight and fight some more. The Lefties have NOTHING save bile and recrimination. Strike and strike and strike again. Mercy is of avail only to the Jihadis and their allies of the day, our own Leftists and Liberals, so called. Blow upon blow upon blow. Rhetorically, of course. Strike them now with words so we will not have to strike them with lead later. Hey, it’s for their own good.
