You Don’t Have To Tell ME!

In the annual ‘sweatiest’ cities survey, Austin ranks #7.  I’m truly baffled as to why I love living here so much, because I detest the heat.  And to top it off, we have no spring whatsoever.  It shoots from winter to high 80′s overnight, before settling in for high 90′s for most of the next 5 months.

Rats…did I mention I hate the heat?…

I hate the heat too, and even though this locale is far more moderate than Austin, we’re going through a real heatwave right now. I still think of my ancestors from Ireland – sure, they moved for the obvious reasons of better opportunities here, but ya gotta love that climate.

Mark, Darlin’, you just gotta sweat it out with the rest of us here in Austin.

By the way, whoever it was that said “women don’t sweat, they glow” – NEVER lived in Texas!

Did you get any of the rain early this morning?
I thought I was imagining things for a few minutes there!

I find the heat oppresive for 4-5 months, but the remaining months are just about right for me. There’s hardly a winter here. We had what, 2 freezes last winter? The one in December put some ice on the road.

The last time I was in Austin it was a humid 102 and we couldn’t decide if it was better (or less worse) to drive with the AC on or the top down. The answer: neither. Although you have a darn fine hotel there (the Driscoll).

But hey: we had an earthquake the other day here in the Bay Area. First I thought that the cats jumped on the bed, but then I knew. However this weekend will be sunny in the 70′s and I’ll be in golf heaven. Makes it worth the quakes and the obscene cost of housing.

  • Melissa, I did see the rain – briefly – driving into work. It sure went quickly, though, didn’t it?

Peter, I’ve actually stayed in the Driscoll, even though I live here, and yes, it’s a fine establishment in a wonderful location…
