Goal For U.S. – Goal!

For the USA to realistically advance after today’s 2006 Word Cup action, Italy must beat the Czech Republic, and the U.S. national team must score their first goal of the Cup (as of now, their only score was an own goal by the Italians) to win their match. Ghana will be a formidable opponent (they all are at this level), so we’ll need a bit of luck. Go, U.S.A.!…

UPDATE 10:10 a.m.: Well, they got the goal – problem is Ghana has 2.  Not looking good at all, but about 40 minutes to go, so hope is (barely) alive…

    They don’t play for goals.

Watch the closing minutes of this match and you will see the same effort you have seen through out the cup. No urgency to score, no attempt from any range outsdie 20 feet from the foal

They simply do not take shots on goal…good teams can afford this finesse, the US is not that good.

After their elimination, the stat that will read clearest is shots on goal, and the US will be at the bottom.
