Dick Cheney On The Times
Regarding their reckless exposure of what appears to have been a completely legal, very effective program with not even an allegation of abuse:
“They are conducted in accordance with the laws of the land,” Cheney was quoted as saying in The New York Times. “They’re carried out in a manner that is fully consistent with the constitutional authority of the president of the United States. They are absolutely essential in terms of protecting us against attacks.”
The Times first reported on the financial tracking program this week in a story that Cheney said hampers U.S. security efforts.
“What I find most disturbing about these stories is the fact that some of the news media take it upon themselves to disclose vital national security programs, thereby making it more difficult for us to prevent future attacks against the American people,” he said. “That offends me.”
It offends me, too, Mr. Vice President…

The news media, allured by the red light “brotheling” charms of liberal populism and craving for their one-night stand, have lost their intellectual, moral, and professional integrity, in regards to the vital interests of the nation.
Without excusing the publishers behavior, let us also express serious outrage toward those who made details of this program available to the Times.
I agree completely too many steves. Why is the leaker not being forced to come out of the closet and face the courts for leaking classified information? This is becoming a pattern by the media to generate more controversy and sell more stories and no one is being held accountable. The unchecked fourth branch of government needs to join us in checks and balances.
Bush has been way too lenient in this regard – the only way to stop the leakers is by prosecuting them.
But Keller is by no means blameless here, either. His sole reason for publishing this story was under the “public interest.” What?!! Given those latitudes, I demand to see a naked picture of Jessica Alba on the front page of the NYT tomorrow – after all, millions of men in the US would consider that a “public interest” as well.
More ridiculous and lame sophistry from the Daily Pravda.
