The Most Dynamic City In The World?

I’ve certainly made a few contributions to its economy

I returned Friday from five days in Vegas. Every year since 1999 we have a company kickoff meeting there. It is a gaudy place and bigger and gaudier than ever. Until this year I had not ventured away from the strip and it’s casinos and restaurants. This year I had the (mis) fortune of accompanying a co-worker to one of the local hospitals and ended up chatting with some of the locals while my friend was having tests done. The construction industry is apparently one of the larger employers. The biggest concern of the people I spoke with is the city’s ability to keep up with the growth. Water, traffic, schools, hospitals (the one I was in is less than 18 months old) are all under capacity. One person claimed that there are approximately 700 new vehicle registrations per day (or maybe it was per week?).

Personally, even if the climate of the place didn’t resemble that of a ceramic oven, I couldn’t imagine living there.
