Wow – Was That Ever Dull!
Well, the England-Portugal match has been everything it shouldn’t be, as the 2006 World Cup continues: dull, listless, and overly conservative. What a contrast from the Germany-Argentina game yesterday! Let’s hope things pick up in the second half of this 0-0 yawner…
UPDATE 11:20 a.m.: Well, England is in for it now; Beckham out with injury, and Rooney red-carded (which means he can’t play in the semifinals, if it comes to it) – and now down a man with 27 minutes left in regulation…
UPDATE 11:51 a.m.: Well, there was more excitement in the last 2 minutes of stoppage time than the entire rest of the game. Into overtime and still scoreless, which has to be counted as a victory for England, with only ten men…
UPDATE 12:45 p.m: It’s been said by many who know more about the game than me; eventually, England was going to have to play. They never did; and their luck ran out – three of the final four are set, as Portugal knocks out the talented English in penalty kicks…

I did mention Portugal winning this one. Should have placed the bet.

Btw, minute 36 of Brazil-France and the French are looking strong.
