The Nutroots are doing this because they honestly feel that the majority of Americans believe as they do. When you ask them why Republicans control every level of government in the US, most respond with the electoral fraud argument.

This is what happens when you spend your whole life in a major US city and never meet or speak with anyone has has a different opinion as you.

If Lieberman loses the primary (looking more likely) and then loses the general (which I feel is very unlikely), the Kossacks will have taken the first step towards driving the Democratic party down the path of the Whigs.

America needs an opposition party; just not this opposition party.

I happen to be a big Lieberman fan, but the sad thing about all of this is the demand for ideological purity from the extremes of both left and right -- regrettably it seems to be one of the biggest reasons why there are so few people in politics who have genuine convictions about things -- there have always been dwarfs in American politics, but these days there seems to be far fewer giants --

Apparently there should be 'zero' cause for celebration.

Liebermann will still run as a democrat-even if an independent one, Lamont still only get 15-20% of the vote. The roots are really setting themselves up for failure-becuase there is no chance Lamont will win the general.

My only question is...
If the progressives have decided to split from their party, would they hurry up and do it elsewhere?

Poetic justice has the GOP guy winning. His 40% is now going to make it a very close state, and a new chance for a gOP pickup.

How can they hang themselves, if there is no head?

This is the closest they have come. The most distinct difference between the two parties has been foreign policy. By sacrificing one of 'their' own on the alter of litmus, they have moved further into politcal oblivion.

Clinton would have not been elected if foreign policy was not, at the time, resolved. Now foreign policy is going to be the biggest question out there for the foreseeable future. If 02, and 04 were any indication, the progressives have balked.

The situation is not yet as dire as it could be, Lieberman will still win the primary...this is the 0-21 crowd-one should never bet against a streak.

SeedFreak asked:

<i>"When will they realize that using such terms identifies them with terrorists and, as such, that they are making themselves the enemy of the public?"</i>

Hopefully, never.

The Lamontistas are an ugly bunch and would consider an overcast day for Connecticut as God's condemnation of Joe--except that the Lamonistas appear to be godless.

The BlogoSmear is very self-absorbed, and IMHO, that is their weakness. With no consideration of how they offend sensible people with their potty-mouth postings and divisive diatribes, they continue to inslut, mock and laugh at honorable hard-working citizens and patriots, yet they can't find fault with themselves in their chest-thumping attempt to gain control of the Democratic Party. Some now are even calling for a political jihad against mainstream Democrats. When will they realize that using such terms identifies them with terrorists and, as such, that they are making themselves the enemy of the public?
