Lieberman Gets Help From Senate Democrats
Three senators will campaign for Joe in Connecticut for the next month:
Embattled Democratic Sen. Joe Lieberman is getting a little help from his Senate friends as he tries to fend off an anti-Iraq war challenger in an intraparty fight.
Sens. Joe Biden of Delaware, Barbara Boxer of California and Ken Salazar of Colorado plan to campaign in Connecticut for Lieberman between now and the Aug. 8 primary. Their goal is to reassure the party faithful of the three-term senator’s loyalty to Democratic causes, including women’s issues, labor and the environment.
Jane Hamsher responds to the news with all of her famous charm intact:
If Boxer wants to come to Connecticut and spend some of her political capital on Rape Gurney Joe, she better bring a Brinks truck. Because the last time I encountered Barbara Boxer talking about Lieberman, she was sadly misinformed. It was during Yearly Kos, and she was saying that opposition to Joe was “all about the war” and that on women’s issues, he was great.
The women of Connecticut don’t think so.
Rape Gurney Joe. Not good on women’s issues, because, you see, he doesn’t agree with Jane Hamsher. Is there a more disgusting personality in the blogosphere?
No, there is not…

Mark, did you read the bit she linked to? Her problem with Joe on “women’s issues” is that he thinks Catholic emergency rooms should be allowed to, in accordance with their faith, not provide emergency contraception to rape victims. Not that he’s pro-life or even that he personally opposes emergency contraception. Nope, he just thinks Catholics shouldn’t be forced to do things they find repugnant to their faith. Somehow I doubt that the women of Connecticut are up in arms about this, or that this is pretty much anyone’s reason for voting against Joe.
Jane Hamsher is mean-spirited in a way only bloggers can be, because they never have to actually look the people they smear in the face. The blogosphere has given rise to a special kind of cretinism.
Also, have you read this one?

It’s positively unhinged.
…like a butch Maureen Dowd.
Is there a more disgusting personality in the blogosphere? Ever hear of a little lady called Michelle Malkin?
I know there is a distaste for all things Malkin, but can you give a specific example?
Anything that is provided must be weighed against the preponderance of lefty commenters implying that she is a ‘mindless asian whore’. Love to see the reality based community ridicule race and sex…all for laughs.
You’d think that the left would find Ann Coulter more incendiary.
One more bone worth picking with Hamsher:
Rape Gurney Joe.
I wonder if Hamsher would favor closing all catholic hospitals in CT, on the premise that they refuse to assist or perform abortions, even for rape victims.
Under that from of thinking-all vegan restaraunts should be shut down for refusing to serve meat.
Hi Mark,
I know you believe Lieberman is one of the good left of center guys, but don’t you at least lose some respect for him when he is going to allow Boxer to campaign for him?
Boxer may not be quite as nutty as Hamsher, but she is pretty darn close. Boxer is as anti-war and pro-abortion as an elected official can get. Boxer long ago made a deal with the devil. Is it worth Lieberman selling his soul to get elected?

Interesting article.
Focuses on the Rice confirmation vote-
8 Jewish senators voted for it-
Coleman, Specter, Feingold, Feinstein, Kohl, Lieberman, Schumer, and Wyden.
3 against-Boxer, Levin, Lautenberg.
Worth noting that there are 11 jewish senators-which is a statistical anomaly, and also emphasizes the power that is held by the Jewish lobby. While many Americans interpret Joe as being pro-bush, it would seem he is more pro-Israel-Saddam was paying suicide bombers 25k to kill Israelis. Also interesting that the two Senators from CA are both jewish.
A democratic party rejection of Liebermann would be catastrophic. The netroots might be able to offset the potentail loss of money and influence, in about 60 years, but the reality is that support and influence from the Jewish lobby is moving towards the GOP(well actually just Bush).
Bingo, Ryan. I sometimes can’t help but think the blogosphere would be a better place if some of the more vile sorts got the occasional head-whacking.
The only thing I can say in Jane’s defense is I’m not sure she’s the worst offender, but that’s only because there’s a depressing multitude of candidates.
Factor in this demographic, the jewish vote.
It worth anywhere from 3-12% nationally-turnout usually runs ‘off the scale’ high, and not nearly the schism of the catholic vote.
“Ever hear of a little lady called Michelle Malkin?”
Sure, and she’s routinely called an “Asian Whore” on a daily basis by the lovely moonbats who post on her blog – and those are among the more subtle comments you’ll find there.
Now, your point was…what, exactly?
BTW, Hamster’s a movie producer who suddenly found an interest in political commentary – enough said.
Shame on Hillary — I’m beginning to think that she is just as craven as Bill Frist — or perhaps she was all along and I never recognized it:

So what if Malkin is called names? That doesn’t mitigate her own transgressions, like refusing to take down the personal phone numbers and addresses of a bunch of UC Santa Cruz students even after they started receiving death threats.
On the basis of comparison you’re using, Hillary Clinton must be a saint because extreme right-wingers call her a lesbian, huh?
“Is there a more disgusting personality in the blogosphere? Ever hear of a little lady called Michelle Malkin?”
to which, the reply was:
I know there is a distaste for all things Malkin, but can you give a specific example?
And the litany of evidence that I get is:
“That doesn’t mitigate her own transgressions, like refusing to take down the personal phone numbers and addresses of a bunch of UC Santa Cruz students even after they started receiving death threats.”
You’re giving me the word ‘transgressions’, but you only provide one example, with no link or context.
I’m trying to keep an open mind on this-but if you are going to detract, make the case. You brought her up, so you must have something better, let’s see it.
Well, Fargus, let me clear about one thing; I’m not in favor of posting personal information on people, regardless of whether they are left or right, Times reporters, or students, or whatever…that kind of crap is certainly low…if Malkin did that, she was certainly wrong to do so…
Good link, peter, thanks…and David, it’s true I’m no fan of Boxer, but if she’s willing to help out Joe, she earns bonus points in my book; he needs all the help he can get right now…
All I’m trying to say is that the left and the right both have their share of nuts. Hamsher’s name-calling only damages her own reputation as a credible source, and we could debate all day over who’s more harmful to the political world at large without reaching a consensus.
My own feeling is that in large part, those on the left who say stuff as damaging as Malkin or Coulter have nowhere close to their stature. You, Mark, often point to examples of these unhinged folks on the left, but they almost always come from the comments section of Daily Kos or the Huffington Post. I’m not saying some of those folks aren’t wacked, because they certainly are, but there’s a big difference between being someone who comments on Kos and being Michelle Malkin.
Under that from of thinking-all vegan restaraunts should be shut down for refusing to serve meat.
What a great analogy! Fookin’ genius!
No doubt, and I do take many of my examples from comments sections – guilty as charged. Hamsher, however, is certainly a blogger of stature…
“All I’m trying to say is that the left and the right both have their share of nuts.”
Agreed. One could argue degrees, but the fact remains.
“That doesn’t mitigate her own transgressions, like refusing to take down the personal phone numbers and addresses of a bunch of UC Santa Cruz students…”
Uh, you’re wrong on that score. Malkin just published the information that was released previously IN A PRESS RELEASE. None of the information was confidential or private in any way, shape or form. The student moonbats threw objects and shouted death threats at the military recruiters, but previously had sent out PR releases in order to get their precious press coverage – then when people actually called them to express their differing opinions, the students started screaming about death threats and the like – poor babies.
Talk about being hoisted on your own petard – and also talk about being a bunch of spineless twits. Next time, they should put up or shut up – it’s not “free speech for me, but not for thee.”
I’m not a big fan of Malkin’s, but the ire that she brings out could only be rivaled by their zeal over Gannon/guckert.
His sin against the left? asked a queation which was indicative of support for the president.
His punishment? Ridiculed for being gay by the left-the party that states they defend homosexuals.
Fargus would have to admit, barring some long list of vile offenses, that the left has chosen to attack Malkin for her ethnicity beyond what she deserves. I find her like a child poking at a jellyfish on the beach-she just reports what she finds. (and of course the left points at her poking a stick in their dead carcass laying on the beach-dummying it all down another tier)
now Coulter…she’s a big game hunter. Do I approve?-I’m …entertained, she holds her own.
