Prepare To Be Shocked

The NY Times will endorse Ned Lamont tomorrow:

The New York Times, in an editorial published on Sunday, endorsed Mr. Lamont over Mr. Lieberman, arguing that the senator had offered the nation a “warped version of bipartisanship” in his dealings with President Bush on national security.

And just what the hell is the NY Times doing making an endorsement in a Connecticut Senate race, anyway? Oh, but it’s not outsider interference that’s killing Lieberman, right, Jane? Just the concerned voters of Connecticut.

Prepare for a barrage of progressive nonsense like you’ve never seen as the primary is a mere 9 days away…

Yer joking, right? The Times has been endorsing candidates in CT and NJ since the late Cretaceous.

  • No papers in Connecticut? All right, fine, if you say so…I don’t recall it, but maybe I just wasn’t paying attention…

Seriously, why would it be inappropriate for the NY Times to make endorsements in a CT race? It really is the local paper for many CT residents, particularly the many Southern CT residents that work and play in NY. The Times also provides heavy CT news coverage and publishes a weekly “Connecticut” section.

The Courant throws in for. Lieberman. Not surprising, given the paper has been endorsing Republicans since Col. McCormick’s outfit bought it six years ago.

(Just to be clear on the Times thing – the Times’ relationship with CT and NJ is much like that of the Chicago Tribune with Aurora and Skokie, IL. It publishes weekly sections in both states – which is probably where the Lamont editorial will appear in the print edition – and makes endorsements for all statewide races.)

  • All right, you guys win…I know when I’m licked…I’ll just go hang my head in the corner now…

Seriously, thanks for the correction. Obviously, I knew a lot of New York workers live in Connecticut (including one Dave Letterman), but I didn’t realize the extent of the Times coverage…I bow to your greater knowledge…

It’s funny. There’s way more affinity between CT and NYC than NYC and Buffalo or Syracuse. Or NYC and Staten Island.

Eureka!!! That’s it! All we have to do is get NYC (all of it except for Staten Island) to secede from New York state and join Connecticut. The Nutroots® can transform Connecticut into their version of Shangri-La and we get another red state in the deal.

    Andy, you’re a genius.

  • [...] Since I criticized the NY Times (wrongly, it seems) for making an endorsement in the Connecticut Senate race, I should be critical of the Washington Post, as well, since it has less of a good reason to get involved. However, since the Washington Post endorses my candidates, I’ll merely link to the endorsement like a good hypocrite and highlight the following: IN HIS BATTLE to win Democratic renomination to the U.S. Senate, Joseph I. Lieberman seems to be getting blamed in Connecticut for something that in Washington is an asset — and ought to be understood as such by Democratic voters back home. [...]
