More On The Shebaa Farms Myth
Good post at Gates of Vienna on the Shebaa Farms Myth; the right conclusion is reached, mainly that the only reason this piece of land is suddenly of paramount concern is that it is a way of allowing opponents of Israel to claim it still ‘occupies’ Lebanon, and thus provides a justification for the terrorist organization Hezbollah to exist…

I do recall a column from last spring, before the Israeli-Hezbollah War, (sorry, I don’t remember the author) that advocated Israel giving the Shebaa Farms to Lebanon, not to appease Hezbollah but to give the newly-independent Lebanese government a victory that would make them appear stronger in the eyes of the Lebanese people.
It’s not a bad idea, except for one thing: technically the area belongs to Syria, at least under some interpretations (of course, the last thing Syria wants to do is take ownership, since Hezbollah is their proxy)…
