A Couple Of Notable Launches

The Atlantis, at last, and Mark Coffey into the world of notebooks: That’s right, good ol’ Windows Vista Beta 2 finally completely locked me out of my own computer!  I can’t tell you how thrilled that made me, and such exquisite timing; kudos to Microsoft for destroying my computer…well done, fellas.

Even more thrilling was the fact that I burned three different copies of Windows Vista RC1, and all three of them crapped out at different points! Bravo!

So, though I can hardly afford it at the moment (but hey, it was credit, so it’s not real, right?), I purchased a laptop (Compaq Presario, the new Intel Core Duo Processor at 1.6 GHz, 1 GB RAM, 100 GB hard drive), and that’s why I have continued to be light on the posting while I get it all set up to my liking.  So once again, let me just express my complete and utter satisfaction with the Windows Vista pre-release program.  Here’s my special one-finger salute!…

    Comrade Mark,

Ummm… no offense man, and maybe I’m missing something here, but wouldn’t it have been easier and less expensive to simply buy a new hard drive and swap them out? A h*ll of a lot less money (even on credit) and it only take less than an hour to swap and reinstall the software.

I’ve done it several times now with the computers I have here.

    Respects,

    Gwedd

  • Oh, I haven’t given up on the old computer, I just have to wait until I get a chance to order RC1 on Microsoft’s prepared DVDs, since the damn thing won’t burn right. I’ve been wanting a notebook for a while anyway, and this put a burner under me to get it done…

Well dude, that’s why its Beta. If you are going to use beta versions of stuff, which admittedly don’t have the bugs worked out, you really can’t bitch. You take them for what they are.

  • Oh, I know, but the part about the 3 (three!) different RC1 burns crapping out really chaps my hide…

You know, I never have trouble with my computers (there are 5 in my house on a wireless network). I especially don’t have any operating system problems. Software upgrades are a breeze; most of them are semi-automatic. I also don’t worry about viruses or other malware. But I understand where you’re coming from. I have to use (*ptui*) Windoze at work, too. I hate it. And at work we always have computer / OS / network / malware problems, despite a dedicated army of technicians and administrators whose job it is to keep those POS running.
