Zogby: Bush 42%, Generic Ballot Dem +9%

Remember, as I never tired of reminding you, that Zogby historically is seen as ‘slanted’ towards giving Democrats better numbers than turn out to be the case…so yeah, good news, I would say…

While I agree it’s decent news Bush is above 40% again, Zogby isn’t the only one where the Dems have an advantage. Once again, this is the same poll tracker you had up a few weeks ago, and the 0 and 3% appear to be oddballs. I’m in the “51/49 Reps retain both” camp, but at this point, nothing would surprise me because this data is nowhere near “in control”. I’m interested to see how each side plays the (supposed?) torture debate in the next few weeks.

    Comrades,

The true sadness of it all, beyond the knife-edged accuracy of the spoof, is that the whole parody will be lost on Olberman. He’ll probably start an MSNBS Fatwa, claiming he was “misquoted” by a “so called blogger”.

Olberman’s personal tragedy is that he doesn’t even rise to a standard of entertainment one would expect of an alledged professional entertainer. He’s just banal, and sad.

What is up with the increase in use of the word “banal”? I was accused of being banal in the past few months, sure, but ever since then I’ve seen it being used in quite a few places. Maybe I just never noticed it until it was directed at me…

I prefer “asinine”. As in, “The use of the word ‘banal’ to describe a left or right wing commentator is asinine”. Although, the dailyhowler might yet convert me to a user of “vacuous” instead, especially when talking about any talking head in the media, right or left.

    mikebdot,

I typed “banal” because it had fewer letters than “assinine”, although the latter is, perhaps, more descriptive. “Jerk” certainly has fewer letters than banal, and I may be tempted to use it in future postings……:)

  • Mike, I hadn’t looked at the tracker in a while; I’m a little surprised it’s still double-digit on the average for Generic Ballot. I thought the spread had narrowed more than that…well, we’ll see, as you say…

I’ve noticed an uptick in the use of the word “irony”. I’ve noticed, I think, because people use it incorrectly (often referring to coincidences rather than true instances of irony) and much too often – to the point of banality, I suppose.

I’d be more optimistic about Zogman’s numbers today, but he’s got Beauprez down only three for Colorado governor, when everyone else has the race at Beauprez down 15 or so to Ritter. Three possible explanations:

    1. Beauprez’s really bad advertising is actually working.

    2. A really nasty 527 anti-Ritter ad mightis doing some damage.

    3. Zogby’s wrong.

Who knows? Might be all three.

“I was accused of being banal in the past few months…”

No, you’ve been accused of being a closet anti – Semite, Mikey. Try to stay current here.

That Generic Democrat must be one fine she-male. Ever and anon does he/she win handily the most arduous of political struggles. What a farce. If the Dems could find a generic to run there might be some hope for them. Sadly for them but not for the rest of us they must have ACTUAL candidates with ACTUAL positions. (cough)

Well, there should be unicorns, too.
