Open Election Night Thread

I’ll keep updating this throughout the evening. Post any good news (or bad) you have in the comments, if you wish.

Good page for results here at CNN. Dewine has lost, no surprise there. Allen is in big trouble; with 20% or so of the vote in, Webb has a slight lead…Rendell over Swan, again, not a surprise…

Chris Bowers is reporting that Webb won the Virginia exit poll 52-48…of course, exit polls tend to favor Democrats, but hard to consider that good news…

You can keep up with Virginia live here

Casey has defeated Santorum…that’s Dems +2 in the Senate, but they were the easy two…

With 42% of the vote in, Allen has taken a slight lead again in Virginia…

Another good CNN page here

Marxist leader Ortega wins…in Nicaragua…I guess that’s +1 Independents…

Menendez wins over Kean in NJ…that’s Dems +3 in the Senate…

Good Senate scorecard here at RealClearPolitics

CT (5) goes to the Dems…

Fox is reporting that “senior Republicans” in high positions are predicting 20-30 seat gains for the Democrats in the House…

Much as it pains me to say it, keep one browser open to Kos, who is updating frequently…

Chuck Schumer is on Fox, saying Virginia remains a nailbaiter…with 56% in, Allen is up by a small margin…

MSNBC’s update page is here

Connecticut still too close to call (gulp!)…

Fox News is openly speculating about a wave election…

CNN is calling Klobuchar in Minnesota and Stabenow in Michigan…

Thank God! Some good news at last! LIEBERMAN WINS! BWAAAHAAAAHAAAA!…

Kos takes the Lamont loss gracefully:

The White House celebrates Joe Lieberman’s victory. So do war mongers.

Up yours, Markos! Have a little for yourself, Jane!

Cardin has defeated Steele…ay, caramba!…

Indiana CD-2 goes to Democrats, that’s a big loss – as is Northup’s in Ky…the House is going to the Democrats, folks, there’s no question…

Michael Barone says the exit polling data has already been shown to be skewed 6-8 points towards the Democrats…that perhaps gives hope to Allen, who is in a real dogfight…with 80% in, the race is a virtual tie…

Chafee out in Rhode Island…not a real shock, but another sign of an unmistakable trend…has any close race gone to a Republican yet? I can’t think of one…

Our good friend mtl reminds us that RCP has a good House scorecard up, too…

Fox News just reported that the White House has ordered chicken tenders! That could be viewed as a plus or minus, depending on your stance on beef…

Another rare piece of good news – Fox just called Florida-13 for the Republicans…

With 85% in, Allen and Webb still neck and neck…

Erlich is out, and Granholm holds…

Florida keeps a Republican governor…

Virginia may be headed for litigation, given the nastiness of the race and the razor-thin margin…NBC just officially called it, sort of – “Too Close To Call”…

NBC has also called Tennessee (gulp!) too close to call…

Curt Weldon is out…say goodbye to Able Danger!…

House is currently sitting at +7 Dems, Senate at +3 Dems…

John McCain is on Fox, and he’s talking my language; less taxes, restrain spending, find a way to prevail in Iraq, get back to conservative principles…

National Review just worships Santorum…enough, already!…

Fox pointed out, rightly, that the Republicans are getting killed in the Northeast and Midwest, but holding their own in the South…I’m cautiously optimistic again on Allen…

Joe Lieberman is on Fox right now – he’s in a jubilant mood, and rightly so…

Bill Kristol just made a great point on Fox: the moment Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton got up on that podium in Connecticut, Lamont was lost…

Jane Hamsher finally comments:

…[T]he wave of Democratic victory that is happening across the country would not be happening if the Lamont campaign did not step forward and change the narrative for Democrats. Despite the fact that Harry Reid, Chuck Schumer and Bill and Hillary Clinton planted a big, fat knife in Lamont’s back and sneered at Democratic voters, the the blue victories that are happening are a direct result of this battle. The genie came out of the bottle and they could not put it back in.

It was a damn good fight and I’m proud to have been a part of it.

Sure, Lamont led the way! You keep believing that, Jane…but I’m damn glad you were a part of it, too, because your “Rape Gurney” Joe blackface shennanigans were a big part of the Lamont loss, as they labelled Lamont clearly out of the Democratic mainstream, as did the Al Sharpton/Jesse Jackson stunt mentioned above…

Oh, my! Webb is within 12,000 in Virginia…there goes my cautious optimism…

FL-22 went to the Dems…

Talent is in big trouble…

Harry Reid seemed less than confident about being the next Majority Leader…does he know something we don’t?…

Bill Kristol just predicted a 30-seat gain for the Democrats…NBC News has projected the Democrats have gained the House…

Rare good news for Republicans tonight…Kyl holds Arizona, Reynolds holds in NY…but Sweeney is out in New York!…ouch…

The Foley seat is gone…

The Washington Post is withdrawing its call of the Steele race, interestingly, as Steele refuses to concede…keep hope alive or desperation? We’ll see…

Fox is predicting, and they’re probably right, that Virginia is headed for a recall…

  • Crybaby Kos. I hope this bodes unwell for his other boy, Tester in MT.

  • mtl

md gone, it was my upset pick too…

hope blue states staying blue, hold for red states staying red.

chocola down, he was a toss up in rcp.

  • mtl

KY-3 to blue, +3 dems house.

  • Yeah, Indiana (2) and Kentucky (3) are big losses…and (gulp!) perhaps harbingers of a wave…

  • mtl

chafee down. won’t miss him, except for the caucus vote.

    +3 dems senate.

  • mtl

I’m going off the rcp chart, for the house races.

    pretty good cheat sheet.

  • mtl

big hold for gop in fl-13.

rcp has 13 leaning dem, 14 in toss up.

if it is going to be more than 27 seats lost, it has to come from those.

  • mtl

early numbers on ny house looks alomost as good as the pa numbers look bad.

Weldon and sherwood are done in pa, gerlach struggling. I’ll hold off on counting them…but only for another 30 minutes.

  • mtl

    johnson out in CT5.
    can shays be far behind?

  • mtl

    pryce in oh-15 hanging tough…

this would be a defense of a likely dem. Easier being a gop woman and defending, than for her male counterparts.

  • mtl

the two gop candidates in ga8,12…

    they’d be welcome pickups.

  • Yes, indeed…that would be great news…Fox just highlighted those two again…

  • mtl

megyn kendall, mmmmm. nighttime answer to juliette huddy.

    fox is killing me.

    Comrades,

Well, I look at it this way. If the dems pick up either the house or the senate or both, then I suggest it’s time to give them a truckload of their own medicine.

File thousands of lawsuits, naming every single democrat winner. File lawsuits against every union thug who stumped for a dem. File lawsuits against every single poll worker in every dem state.

Sit ins at Harry Reid’s and Pelosi’s offices. Storm the editorial offices of the Paper of Wreckage and the WaPo. Smash their computers and burn their files.

I will no longer take the high ground regarding the Democrats. I consider them to be anti-American, and a clear and present danger to the constitution and the safety of the nation.

No more mister nice guy with the dems..:)

The again, I suspect I’ll take a few days off, down some bourbon, and then start developing a cunning plan to oust the lot….

Of such things are dreams made of…..

    Respects,

    Gwedd

Allen will win VA, but not enough to keep the dems from making a challenge. This is going to be ‘great’ pr for dems.

97% reporting, webb needs to take 53,000 v. allen only getting 15k more.

The democratic voters should consider a class action lawsuit to end the process of super-delegates. A case can be made that the super-delegates degrade, and are intended to dilute, the weight of our votes to allow the party elites to determine who gets the nomination of the party. It doesn’t matter whether Hillary or Obama gets the nomination, both will be great democratic leaders. However, the fact that super-delegates have the power to overrule the voters is against the concept of democracy, and harms the voters of this country.

Do not lose focus on this issue after the primaries are over. While it may turn out that this process does not override the American vote this year, the chances are there for the future.
