3 contributing factors to Murtha losing, with a potential #4:
Murtha’s appearance of corruption. Murtha’s ‘cut and run’ blather. Hoyer’s popularity…
#4? Are there dem’s who want to distance themselves from the new speaker of the house, and all things she touches?
149-86.
63%-37%, despite nancy’s call. It would be fair to say that the congress is a little more conservative than pelosi, and would also suggest that she is struggling to find even 40% support for her opinions.
This would also suggest that a bi-partisan quorum, is far more attainable than one coming from only the dems.
Too early to tell but this could also indicate poor political judgement and a poor sense of the mood of her fellow members; maybe even a badly running aparatus that didn’t properly predict the vote.
The political thing to do would have been to support Heyer – unless she didn’t think or know he would win. Now she has created more separation between herself and the majority leader (apparently they already didn’t like each other).
