Two Foreign Policy Items…

…neither good, from my perspective.  First, as expected by any sentient human being, Iran has rejected calls to freeze its uranium enrichment one day ahead of the twenty-fifth UN deadline for doing so.

Equally discouraging is the news that Tony Blair will announce a partial withdrawal timetable for 1,500 of the 7,000 UK troops currently serving in Iraq.  At a time when our capabilities are already stretched to the breaking point, making up 1,500 extra troops will be an additional hardship, though I don’t know the details on whether those troops are supposed to be replaced, and if so, by Iraqi forces or otherwise.  The troops are not, of course, in Baghdad, but mostly in Basra, so there should be no (direct) effect on Operation Baghdad, for those looking for a silver lining…
