Who Has The Best Campaign Websites?

That was the question put before me and twenty-three more of “the best Republican Internet strategists” – quit snickering in the back!  - by the National Journal’s Hotline On Call – the results of the poll are here:

Question 1: Which Democratic WH ‘08 candidate has the most effective Web site?
BarackObama.com — 10 votes

“On the Democrat side, Obama has the best offline story to tell right now, and it is translating effortlesssly to his online efforts.”

“The emphasis on social networking is the perfect fit for Obama, who has already shown himself to be the most popular candidate on social networking sites like Facebook.”

“Very rewarding site, visually, a lot of rich content, very modern and sophisticated, and a great logo.”

…Question 2: Which Republican WH ‘08 candidate has the most effective Web site?

JohnMcCain.com — 8 votes:

“His site is best because it is, by far, the best looking — and easiest to navigate. I also give him lots of credit for the use of video.”

“Brilliant use of design and iconography. Good to see that the campaign had the courage to throw out the tired and boring ‘red, white, and blue’ color scheme.”

“McCain wins on feature alone — the other sites don’t have much going on yet. The fact that McCain wins with that awful black and white design and phony social netwrok [sic] is a real indictment of the effort of the Republicans so far.”

What do you think? And we weren’t asked – but who has the worst?…

UDPATE 1:04 p.m.: P.S. – one of the featured quotes on Obama’s site is mine, but I’m not telling which one – now just try to sleep tonight!…

I’m guessing it’s the logo quote, since you and I agreed on that.

I wonder how useful those Web sites are, no matter how smoothly they’re put together. How many truly undecided voters want to spend time sorting through the “Our guy’s the best!” dreck that any campaign web site inevitably carries?

If they make it easy for people to contribute money, that’s probably the best use. Perhaps the social networking stuff helps drum up votes too, as a sort of high-tech version of the stuff Karl Rove’s been doing for a while.

  • Yeah I’ve heard some good things about Barack Obama. I heard he had an Iraq de-escalation act. Even people who supported the Iraq war when it began, would probably now agree that it resulted badly, with civil unrest and violence still occurring in Iraq: so probably Obama’s policy is favourable, there. I heard he also wanted to improve the schools, and increase literacy rates, and all of that. I guess I’ll have to read what some of his detractors have to say, to learn the negative side. I’m trying to decide whom it would be best to vote for!
