Checking In On The Polls…

With just a 4.8% average spread between Rudy Giuliani and Fred Thompson at the RealClearPolitics polling page, the GOP race is as tight as it has been since…well, maybe ever. Or is it? Thompson is, of course, benefiting from his recent announcement at the moment, and enjoying a bounce that will probably decline. He is also helped out by a 8% lead over Giuliani in the Rasmussen robo-polling, a result that has simply not been duplicated anywhere else and which must thus be seen as an outlier for now. Still, there is no doubt that this has been a good few weeks for Thompson, and that Giuliani hasn’t exactly been on fire as of late. Huckabee has established himself as the definite dark horse candidate, breaking out into the mid single digits, and McCain has come back a little after his campaign nearly imploded (instead, it is Romney who now seems to be floundering).

On the Democratic side, those hoping for a Wes Clark candidacy (I’m talking to all 20 of you!) are hoping in vain:

Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton was endorsed Saturday by retired Gen. Wesley Clark, who sought the party’s nomination in 2004 and whose sterling military credentials could bolster her bid to be the first female commander in chief.

Clark, the former supreme allied commander of NATO, praised the New York senator as “a remarkable person” with the skills and experience to be president.

“She will be a great leader for the United States of America and a great commander in chief for the men and women in uniform,” Clark told reporters in a conference call with the former first lady.

Clinton welcomed Clark’s endorsement as a “real sign of confidence” in her ability to lead the military as president. “He and I have been friends for 25 years, and I am deeply admiring of his leadership,” she said.

But Clinton also sidestepped questions about a newspaper ad by the liberal group MoveOn.org that criticized the top military commander in Iraq, Gen. David Petraeus. She has refused to condemn the ad, which referred to Petraeus as “General Betray-Us.”

“I have repeatedly not only expressed my strong admiration and support for our men and women in uniform but with respect to General Petraeus, I have also made my respect for him abundantly clear and I think that speaks for itself,” she said.

Hmmm…so her respect for Petraeus is abundantly clear, but she refuses to condemn an ad accusing him of being a traitor by a liberal special interest group. That, also, speaks for itself, does it not?..

No Hillary lover am I, but must, at this point, say you demand too much of her. Just as she is under no obligation to apologize for her vote on the Iraq War, she is not obligated to denounce the moveon advertisement. She is only responsible for what she says and does, and I don’t care if she takes money from that group – that represents their endorsement of her, not her’s of them.

If you want to pillory Hillary, let’s do so over this:

Clark wants SecDef. Payback will be hell for those who crossed him 8 years ago, which would include the Clinton admin for firing him. Hmmm, another case of pretzel logic — supporting those who fired you. Then again, that’s all water under the bridge when the future is so bright.

Forget the polls guys, they will become meaningless on Monday Oct the 1st. By the afternoon with the entry of Newt Gingrich in the Presidential race, Rudy Giuliani is going to finally have some real competition nipping him in the ***.

Newt Gingrich, is likely going to seek the Republican Nomination for President of the U.S.A. All one needs to do to believe this, is read yesterday’s article in the “Washington Times”. The link is posted below for the few Conservatives that visit this liberal website.

    http://www.washingtontimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070924/NATION/109240072/1001.

I believe Newt, when he says “Next Monday, Randy Evans, my friend and adviser since 1976, will hold a press briefing and explain how he intends to review whether it is realistic for me to consider running”. I take him at his word. This is real folks.

I myself, believe Newt will almost certainly announce he will run for President after the 3 weeks he has laid out as his “review whether it is realistic for me to consider running” period passes. The PRESS CONFERENCE will be held this coming Monday on October the 1st.

Newt is the man to watch folks. I am glad to see for the first time in this election cycle, a candidate that is Conservative and ACTUALLY HAS SOME BRAINS! Newt will thoroughly Clean Hillary Clintons clock in the debates, like ol Ronny did to both Jimmy Carter and Walter Mondale in 1979 and 1983 respectively.
