Barack Obama’s Resume

I notice my old blog is getting a lot of hits from people searching for Barack Obama’s resume.  They’re landing on the old Blogger page, where my hopelessly out-of-date candidate profile (not updated since July of 2005) resides.

In an attempt to get some of that traffic over here on the more up-to-date blog, here is Barack’s experience in a nutshell:

Junior Senator for Illinois; first African-American editor of Harvard Law Review; former Illinois state senator.  More, from his official Senate biography:

Barack Obama was born on August 4th, 1961, in Hawaii to Barack Obama, Sr. and Ann Dunham. Obama graduated from Columbia University in 1983, and moved to Chicago in 1985 to work for a church-based group seeking to improve living conditions in poor neighborhoods plagued with crime and high unemployment.

Now, if I’ve successfully lured you here from a Google search, why not stick around and join the conversation?  It’s a shame to see all these new visitors and so few comments…

    Who is Barack Obama?

Something that should be considered when you make your choice.

If you do not ever forward anything else, please forward this to all
your contacts…it is very scary to think of what could lie ahead for us
here in our own United States…better heed this and pray about it and share it.

We checked this out on ””. It is factual. Check for yourself.

    Who is Barack Obama?

Probable U. S. presidential candidate, Barack Hussein Obama was born
in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Barack Hussein Obama, Sr., a black MUSLIM
from Nyangoma-Kogel, Kenya and Ann Dunham, a white Athiest from
    Wichita, Kansas.

Obama’s parents met at the University of Hawaii. When Obama was two
years old, his parents divorced. His father returned to Kenya. His

mother then married Lolo Soetoro, a RADICAL Muslim from Indonesia.
When Obama was 6 years old, the family relocated to Indonesia. Obama
attended a MUSLIM school in Jakarta. He also spent two years in a
    Catholic school.

Obama takes great care to conceal the fact that he is a Muslim. He is
quick to point out that, “He was once a Muslim, but that he also
    attended Catholic school.”

Obama’s political handlers are attempting to make it appear that that he is not a radical.

Obama’s introduction to Islam came via his father, and that this
influence was temporary at best. In reality, the senior Obama returned
to Kenya soon after the divorce, and never again had any direct
    influence over his son’s education.

Lolo Soetoro, the second husband of Obama’s mother, Ann Dunham,
introduced his stepson to Islam. Obama was enrolled in a Wahabi school
    in Jakarta.

Wahabism is the RADICAL ISLAMIC teaching that is followed by the Muslim
terrorists who are now waging Jihad against the western world. Since
it is politically expedient to be a CHRISTIAN when seeking major
public office in the United States, Barack Hussein Obama has joined
the United Church of Christ in an attempt to downplay his Muslim

background. ALSO, keep in mind that when he was sworn into office he
DID NOT use the Holy Bible, but instead the Koran.

Barack Hussein Obama will NOT recite the Pledge of Allegience nor

will he show any reverence for our flag. While others place their hands

over their hearts, Obama turns his back to the flag and slouches.

Let us all remain alert concerning Obama’s expected presidential

The Muslims have said they plan on destroying the US from the inside
out, what better way to start than at the highest level – through the
President of the United States, one of their own!!!!

Please forward to everyone you know. Would you want this man leading
    our country?……

If this isn’t a bunch of BS, I don’t know what is.

Find a new cause, one that’s legite

  • For the record, this is Mark, the proprietor of this blog, and I don’t endorse the sentiments of Mr. Coury at all…indeed, I think that’s a smear through and through…

This is the real Barak story. Enjoy.

Practical, Progressive Thinking on the Issues: In 2002, Barack Obama publicly opposed the Iraq War, and continues to call for withdrawal of US troops from Iraq. He urges universal health care, and if elected president, promises implementation by the end of his first term.
Barack Obama’s voting record and stances as US Senator and Illinois State Senator reflect a “practical, common sense progressive” thinker who emphasizes increased support for teachers, college affordability, and restoration of meaningful federal support of veterans. Obama opposes privatization of Social Security.

Prior Experience: Barack Obama served 7 years as an Illinois State Senator, resigning to assume US Senate responsibilities. He also worked as a community organizer and a civil rights attorney. The Senator is a Senior Lecturer in Constitutional Law at University of Chicago Law School.
After law school, he aggressively organized one of the largest voter registration drives in Chicago history to help Bill Clinton’s 1992 election.

    Personal Data:
Birth – August 4, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii
Education – BA in international relations, 1983, Columbia University. JD from Harvard Law School, where he was Editor of the Harvard Law Review
Family – Married on October 18, 1992 to Michelle Robinson, a Chicago native, also a Harvard Law School graduate. Two young daughters, Malia and Sasha.
Faith – Christian, United Church of Christ
The Senator returns to their Chicago home from Washington DC every weekend. Obama is a Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bears fan.
Growing Up Barack Obama: Born Barrack Hussein Obama, Jr, son of a Kenya-born Harvard-educated economist and a Caucasian anthropologist, was 2 years old when his parents divorced.
His father (deceased in 1982) returned to Kenya, and only saw his son once more. His mother remarried, and moved Barack to Indonesia. He returned to Hawaii at age 10 to live with his maternal grandparents. He graduated from the respected Punahou School with honors. As a teenager, he scooped ice cream at Baskins-Robbins, and has admitted to dabbling in marijuana and cocaine.

Memorable Quotes : “You can’t have No Child Left Behind if you leave the money behind.”
“I do agree that the Democrats have been intellectually lazy in failing to take the core ideals of the Democratic Party and adapting them to circumstances…. It’s not just a matter of sticking in a quote from the Bible into a stock speech.”

“There has yet to be a serious conversation about health care on the floor of the United States Senate.”

“…as parents, we need to find the time and the energy to step in and find ways to help our kids love reading. We can read to them, talk to them about what they’re reading and make time for this by turning off the TV ourselves. Libraries can help parents with this. Knowing the constraints we face from busy schedules and a TV culture, we need to think outside the box here – to dream big like we always have in America.

Right now, children come home from their first doctor’s appointment with an extra bottle of formula. But imagine if they came home with their first library card or their first copy of Goodnight Moon? What if it was as easy to get a book as it is to rent a DVD or pick up McDonalds? What if instead of a toy in every Happy Meal, there was a book? What if there were portable libraries that rolled through parks and playgrounds like ice cream trucks? Or kiosks in stores where you could borrow books?

What if during the summer, when kids often lose much of the reading progress they’ve made during the year, every child had a list of books they had to read and talk about and an invitation to a summer reading club at the local library? Libraries have a special role to play in our knowledge economy.” — June 27, 2005 Speech to the American Library Association

I just happened upon this blog, and read Fred Coury’s entry, requesting that we forward it “to all your contacts.” You should, but only if you want to spread bigotry to all you know.

Let’s look at the candidate for what they stand for. I could not care less what religion our next President practices, if at all. That is a major problem for many of the non-progressive thinkers (obviously, “Fred Coury” being one of them). With that kind of thinking, the red states will rule again, voting for the fear of God rather than with their brains.

With that kind of thinking, Mr. Coury should go ahead and make an uninformed, closed minded decision. Perhaps someone who thinks that their christian God speaks through them, so paying attention to what the rest of the population does not affect his decision. For me, that has proved not to work, and I am ready to support a rational, forward-thinking candidate, who will not believe they are the Pope for whatever God they believe in.

In sum, Mr. Coury, you are an idiot.

  • Dan Tiffany

Another point – anybody here besides Mr. Coury suspect Obama is a terrorist?

  • Wilson Lanford

It is regrettable that the term Muslim has become an anathma to some. Ordinary Muslims must feel the way I as a Christian feel about some of the right wing Bible Thumpers with their bumper sticker phiilosophies. First of all the overlap between all Major religions including Muslim and Christian is amazinly similar. Second, Thomas Jefferson did NOT take the oath of office swearing to god. Our forefathers were scrupulous about the separation of church and state and those who continue to insist that this is a judeo christian democracy are wrong on all counts. The republic will remain healthy as long as religion is kept to a personal level. And personally I don’t want the government involved in my religion or any other personal choices. Hillary has spent 6 unremarkable years in the Senate in a seat that was practically handed to her and while she may have listened at the keyhole in the whitehouse I doubt her ability, despite her great intellect, to forge any coalition. Just look at her health care failur. Obama may have limited experience but when he opens his mouth I hear a lot of common sense. And he can compete an answer without 14 political cliques. Jack Kenney had limited experience also. Where were these question when George W. ran for President? He had experience as a governor of a state which so limits the governor’s power that the state is almost self sufficient. I say we need vision and a healing, not devisive leader.

  • Wilson Lanford

And by the way. I grew up pledging allegiance without the term “under God” which was added by President. Eisenhower.

  • Viola OConnell

Just my opinion, but I believe people love Obama for nothing more than his fresh, young face and charisma. He is very likable. He lacks the experience to take on the most powerful role in the world.
I fear people are more into voting for a homecoming king than anything and are not considering some of the things he supports. For instance, raising the capital gains tax from 15% to 28% He also wants to pull out of many foreign countries. My fear is that we will do that and forget and Iran will continue to make nuclear weapons.
I’m disappointed in both McCain and Obama and am fearful for our nation!

  • Nicole Metheny

I could not agree with you more Viola. I have to admit that the thought of Obama going to the Wahabi School in Jakarta does worry me. Does anyone know if that claim is valid? I understand that you do not have to believe in God to be President, so I will not criticize his religious preferences. However, if the claim is true that he turns his back to the American flag or refuses to salute the American flag, then why does he want to be the President of America? Saluting/honoring/recognizing the flag does not have anything to do with a religion, it is a representation of the U.S.A. If that rumor is true, then I am scared for America if he gets presidency. I am not at all impressed with the selection of possible candidates this year and I am truly worried about America’s future. I have taken several polls/quizzes and my views against each candidate’s view and none of them match up with me more than 60% (to Mr. Huckabee, who is unforunately not faring well in the race for 2008 at the moment). I just wish that for once, we could get a real President, someone who is completely straight forward and open and honest about everything. Someone who does not throw out false hopes or goals. Someone who tells you exactly how things are. Honesty is always the best policy and I feel sorry for America in this race for 2008. Surely there are better candidates for President out there than the ones we have to choose from.

  • Nicole, don’t believe every email you receive. Go to and enlighten yourself on both of those widely circulated smears…

  • Dan

I’ll take Barack’s less than massive experience especially when combined with his intellect, integrity, ability to work with a broad spectrum of stake holders, and exceptional communication skills.

Besides, look at all the experience that Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld had! And they still managed to botch Iraq to such an extent that now, many years later, we really only have two options: bleed ourselves dry staying in or slowly/firmly pull out.

  • Regardless of how many smears I see on Obama, I am still supporting, and voting for him, as I did on 2/5/08.

It’s sad that we the black people have endured the white man’s bull-sh** for centuries and centuries, and now you want me to denounce/reject Obama. I don’t think so.

Try unity for a change, than maybe you may have a chance in God’s kingdom.

  • Dan

By now it’s a familiar tale: On July 27, 2004, Barack Obama strode to the podium at the Democratic National Convention and captivated the nation with a soaring and memorable keynote address entitled “The Audacity of Hope.” The speech marked America’s first encounter with a rising political star. By the time Obama took the stage in Boston, he was already a shoo-in to become the next United States Senator from Illinois; he enjoyed a massive lead in the polls back home, where the state Republican Party was in total disarray and his carpet-bagging opponent seemed to specialize in alienating voters. Since that summer night more than three years ago, Obama has rocketed into the political stratosphere and now faces the possibility—if not the probability—of becoming his party’s standard-bearer in the 2008 election.

Several questions still linger. How did Barack Obama rise from relative obscurity to his current level of prominence? How many Americans have heard of Alice Palmer, Blair Hull, or Jack Ryan? These names may hold no significance to the legions who now chant “yes we can,” but they are names that Barack Obama should remember well. The mainstream press, which affords Obama nearly unanimous glowing coverage, has repeatedly failed to report a reality that doesn’t quite fit the Obama-as-Messiah narrative. Namely, that this self-stylized agent of hope and change is a political opportunist extraordinaire. Barack Obama’s dizzying ascendancy to political celebrity has been marked by less-than-inspirational bare-knuckle politics, an unremarkable legislative career, and a slew of lurid scandals that conveniently sunk formidable opponents.

Obama’s first big break came in 1995 when Democratic Congressman Mel Reynolds resigned from office amid allegations of a sexual relationship with an underage girl. As state officials convened a special election, a venerable Chicago politician and civil rights leader named Alice Palmer chose to vacate her State Senate seat to pursue the open Congressional slot. After she was defeated handily, Palmer returned to run for re-election, only to discover that her hand picked successor was unwilling to relinquish his spot on the ballot. Though a series of legal challenges, Barack Obama strong-armed Palmer—and several other Democratic challengers—off the ballot, clearing a path to victory by destroying all potential competition.

During his unexceptional tenure in Springfield, Obama managed to rack up 129 “present” votes, including numerous noncommittal tallies on controversial issues such as abortion and gun rights. He also developed a curious, albeit rare, pattern of registering incorrect votes—including an accidental “no” vote on a hotly contested child welfare bill. When confronted with his mistaken vote, Obama asserted that he was “unaware” that he had voted the way he had, and asked that the record reflect that he had “intended” to vote the other way. Similar cases of supposed vote-casting confusion afflicted Obama on five additional occasions.

As the 2004 general election approached, Obama began to eye greener pastures. He decided to run for US Senate, positioning himself as an antiwar candidate. His longshot effort attracted throngs of college students, yet Obama gained little traction against the party’s frontrunner, millionaire Blair Hull. But a bombshell scandal resurrected Obama’s prospects. In amazingly short order, Hull experienced what the Chicago Tribune described as “the most inglorious campaign implosion in Illinois political history.” Late in the primary race, unsealed divorce papers revealed allegations that Hull had verbally and physically abused his ex-wife. The Hull campaign tanked, and Team Obama celebrated. The nomination was theirs.

Illinois political observers then turned their attention to what promised to be a fiercely competitive general election race between Obama and GOP frontrunner Jack Ryan, a well-funded, charismatic businessman. Once again, however, scandal lurked in sealed divorce papers. Over the objections of both Ryan and his ex-wife—actress Jeri Ryan—the damning documents were made public, and the resulting headlines were salacious: Ryan had allegedly pressured his wife to visit sex clubs. Like Reynolds and Hull before him, Ryan dropped out of public life in disgrace, with Obama happily playing the role of beneficiary.

With Jack Ryan out of the picture, a desperate Republican Party trotted out a polarizing non-Illinoisan to face Obama in the fall. Alan Keyes’ disastrous Senate campaign is perhaps best remembered for Keyes’ spate of vicious, counterproductive attacks launched against Obama, including the assertion that Jesus Christ himself would have voted against Obama. The rout was on.

DNC organizers, anticipating Obama’s assured victory and recognizing his potential widespread appeal, wisely offered him a coveted primetime speaking slot during the summer convention. Although the Beantown gathering was designed to be a political infomercial for the ill-fated Kerry/Edwards ticket, Obama stole the show with a speech that inspired millions and, more-importantly, transformed him into an instant media darling. Obama had seized his moment and smashed a rhetorical homerun. Less than half a Senate term later, he announced his Presidential bid.

Now only two figures impede Obama’s path to the presidency. Unless Hillary Clinton can revitalize her sputtering campaign, or John McCain can defy the political odds and prevail in a tough electoral climate for Republicans, Barack Obama will become our next Commander-In-Chief. Unlike most seasoned politicians, who earn presidential nominations through many years of legislative, executive, or military accomplishments, Obama has exploited his rock-star status to skip to the front of the line. With many of his supporters apparently distracted by his powerful persona and vague, uplifting message, few people seem to notice, or care, that Obama’s qualifications to be president are more than a bit thin. Americans would be well-served to shake themselves from the “change” trance long enough to examine Senator Obama’s relatively meager record.

  • MahoganyShotgun

    Senator Barack Obama has
__ 7 yrs as a Civil Rights attorney, and his
__ 4 yrs as a community organizer. That’s 11 years of serving “We the People.”

For someone who is getting labeled as having no experience, Barack has more legislative experience than Hillary Clinton, whose 35 yrs of experience have yet to be clarified.

Barack Obama has 13 yrs of congressional legislative experience to Hillary Clinton’s 7 years.

Many other past presidents did NOT have anywhere near as much experience as Barack Obama has. I won’t pretend to not know why Obama is being scrutinized over “experience,” when previous presidents did not have as much as he does when they took office.

Barack Obama has 24 years of significant experience, which doesn’t include other jobs.

  • Ben

I believe Dan’s message was biased, and I’m sure Obama had to do a good job to get elected, but Dan’s message was not ridiculously offensive and absolute BS like Mr. Coury’s. So, let me address the experience issue raised by Dan. I agree that he does not have as much experience in office. But look at his resume. He graduated Magna Cum Laude (highest honors) from Harvard Law, and was a senior law lecturer at a top university for some time as well. He knows law and politics from an academic viewpoint, and by his record, he knows it well. He has combined his academic knowledge with real world experience, though short, and has succeeded. He has pushed through bills, stood against the war, etc.. As Obama says, experience is only useful if you can use it to make better decisions. Hillary Clinton, Bush, and Cheney have not used their experience to make good decisions, so why would you expect them to make good decisions in the future. I say vote for someone who is smart. Someone who is smarter than me and you (unless you are a super-genious). Don’t vote for someone because they are ‘fun’ to get a beer with, or because they share your gender or race. Vote for someone who is damn smart, hard working, and will improve your lives by doing a good job as president (you’re never going to get a beer with the president anyways). I think that person is Obama. Look at his website and you will see all the ideas he has.

PS Mr. Coury, you are the perfect example of an ignorant American. You are why we need to improve education in our country.
PPS For the record, I think that the Republicans in office have been abysmal, but lets acknowledge that McCain is a pretty good politician. While I think Obama would make a better president (even ignoring my ideologies), McCain would not be bad (except I don’t follow his ideologies).

  • Inga

If Obama wins this election, America will be in great trouble. He’s a great speaker, but has no experience.
Linda Harriss, what kind of bullsh** have YOU endured from the white man?
Black people have alot more opportunities than white people. Look at the scholarships to universities offered for african amercians, there are thousands of them. Lets get real here. YOU don’t suffer your ancestors did!

  • Ryan Hayes

All I can say is look at these 2 points: 1.) Barrack Obama has been defending the middle class his entire life, from Civil Rights to helping the homeless….all of you ppl who say he’s going to tax the shit out of us are full of it. He’s only going to tax you if you belong in the top 5% of the wealth of our country, and when we have 80 million ppl who can’t even afford healthcare, then that top 5% deserves to pay for humanity’s sake. There’s no way somebody needs that much money when everybody else is scraping to get by.

2.) John McCain is a lobbyist’s dream. All of his friends and campaign advisors are lobbyists to the people and companies that have caused all of the problems we are facing today. Do people honestly expect McCain to stab these people in the back and help those who really need it? Of course not! Add to that the fact he’s been involved in more than 1 scandal in his 36 years of Senate….he’s an old white man out of touch with society. His dream is from the 1950′s, and it’s not coming back. Lastly, the man is not right in the head. You get tortured every day for 3 years and tell me you are psychologically fit to run a nation. Do you want a crazy old fart with a chip on his shoulder standing next to the red phone when it rings? McCain will lead us to one war after another.

And if you wanna go by education alone, would you rather vote for a man who has graduated from Columbia and Harvard Law (2 of the US’s most prestigious universities), or somebody who has his degree from the Naval Academy, where he learned about nothing but how to wage war?

  • I grew up pledging our allegience to our flag using “under God” before President Eisenhower became president so the “so called fact” that Eisenhower added “under God” is WRONG.

Our country was formed one nation under God – anybody who does not believe in God is free to feel that way, but why don’t they move to another country who is not a God believing country?

It would make a difference to me & should make a difference to all that any person leading our great country should be devoted to God – I still want to know if Obama refusing to take the senate oath with the Bible & not paying reverence to God is a true fact or something people want “us” to believe.

When Arnold Schwarzanegger became Governor of California, did Republicans call him a celebrity with no experience? He wasn’t even born in the USA. Barack H. Obama will be a fine president if given the chance -similar to the chance given John F. Kennedy or Theodore Roosevelt.

  • Liz Ross

WAKE UP YOU WHITE FACES. Mr. Obama is one of those black people who has a chip on his shoulder and has very little use for white folks or this America which he intends to change completely in favor of blacks and integration of muslims from other countries. You think you have problems with the large numbers of Hispanics in this country, wait until he begins a program for young Muslims to come and learn our science and math in this country and we will pay for them. By the time he gets through with turning this country upside down, you will never know the old America and it will be YOUR fault. FIGHT BACK YOU STUPID WHITE FACES!

  • John Lowery

Late in the game for this, being the night before we MIGHT get rid of the Communist-In-Chief. But better late than never.
When Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for what he MIGHT accomplish AFTER he became President,I sent him a message via I told him that a man of honor would not accept an award for deeds not done and that he should ask the Committee to withdraw it and award it to another of the over 200 nominees. Instead, he accepted it.
He, with Pelosi and Reid gave us a Bill that “had to be passed so we could see what was in it”. Must be honest here, he said he would before he was elected. He did not lie to us about his qualifications. He said he was a Community Organizer, a Constitutional Law Professor, that he was going to “Fundamentally Transform” America.
OK. Gus Hall, Chairman of CPUSA when I was a boy, ran a whole raft of Community Organizers. My dad was one in Dallas for a quarter of a century. He was approached to join the Party while a Teamster working for Railway Express. He reported it to the FBI and they asked if he’d join and send reports from time to time. He did. He did his stuff with organizations like Teamsters, American GI Forum and others. Our house was a stopover for folks from all over the world as they came here and did their Communist stuff. I grew up with a hero for a dad. Obama is a Saul Alinsky Radical. His Organizing was along the lines of Cloward and Pivens. If you don’t know them, you should.
He was supported in his rise in politics by Bill Ayers, Jeff Jones and others from the Weather Underground. He threw the inaguration fundraiser for Obama’s entry into the Illinois Senate. He also said he was proud of the bombs he set off in the 60′s and was sorry he hadn’t done more.
If Obama wins tomorrow, 11/06/2012, then he will “have more flexibility in working with “Vlad” (Putin). I watched his lips move when he said that to the outgoing President of Russia.
Obama has set up an Islamist takeover of the north and sub-Saharan Africa area. Israel may not survive the decade.
Your taxes will be inversly changed with respect to your freedoms. There will be a remake of a Travolta movie but the title will be Greece, because Greece R Us. Prepare to experience Authoritarian Socialism if this man wins a second term. And I’ll bet we have a Rodney King reaction if he loses. But my power’s secure, my house is strong, my powder’s dry and I’m ready.
I hope that we have an orderly transition back toward America the Beautiful. But there’s a rude saying that starts off “Hope in your right hand” and ends up with “and see which one fills up first”. We’ll see.
Pray for Harry Reid. He needs a retirement party as Majority Leader.
Rant done. Nobody’s gonna read it, but it felt good.
