If UCLA Loses This Game…

…and it looks like they may, it will because of two things: poor play from Collison at the point guard, and the inability to establish Love in the post…

UPDATE 6:50 p.m.: The problems mentioned above are interrelated – Love has to work harder to get open (he’s just not fighting off the double-teams by keeping moving), but Collison as the floor general has to do more to create opportunities – a much taller order now that he has picked up his fourth foul.

I haven’t blogged on my favorite sporting event, the NCAA tournament, yet this year, so let me just say this: the fact that all four #1 teams made it out of their regionals is a tribute to the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee.

And let me say one more thing: Memphis is the best team in college basketball. I expect them to finish off UCLA and then win over North Carolina on Monday in the final…

UPDATE 7:01 p.m; Well, three jeers to Collison; not only did he play poorly (something that happens to the best of players), but he went out like a punk with a frustration jab at the ball to get his fifth foul at the most inopportune time.  That shows emotional immaturity, and at this high a level, with the world watching, it’s something that will long be remembered by the UCLA faithful – not to mention his NBA prospects are plummeting like the value of the dollar…

So much for UNC. That was a heck of a shock.

  • Yes, I was quite surprised – I was for Kansas, for the mere fact that they are a Big 12 team, but I really thought they had no chance. I still think Memphis will dispatch of Kansas pretty easily, but who knows? Let’s hope it’s at least a close game – these two were a bit lop-sided for national semifinals…
