Want To Read The Senate Bailout Bill Just Passed?
Here you go: all 451 pages of it. It appears that a decision was made that the only way to pass the bailout bill was to load it with pork. Tax cuts, renewable energy credits, health coverage mandates, there’s a little something for everyone!
Of course, all of these measures only add to the $700 billion tab, and no one, least of all the Senators who just passed it, had time to read it.
Sigh…so the biggest financial crisis since the Great Depression becomes just another exercise in runaway spending…say, is my irony meter broken?…
I wanted a reasonable bailout bill to pass, with oversight and taxpayer equity, but this is a Christmas wish list, when we can least afford it. Mark me down in opposition. Here’s hoping the House stands pat and votes this dog down…
UPDATE 8:34 p.m.: The final tally in the Senate was 74 ayes…

They added the rescue bill to a bill already passed in the House so as to get the process back on track. The Constitution requires spending bills to originate in the House.
The pork fest was in the prior bill already which was going to passs in any event.
So, your outrage is misplaced.
Well, regardless of where the pork originated, it’s still pork – and I thought McCain was going to be the anti-pork candidate. Oink, oink – nothing to see here folks!…
