Two Quick College Football Points

1. As OU loses yet another big game (way to go Longhorns!), I have to ask: is Bob Stoops the beneficiary of being consistently overrated?…

2. Has there ever been a bigger meltdown than that suffered by the once-mighty Michigan Wolverines? Perhaps Notre Dame, but they were the big losers when the conferences consolidated and the BCS began, with their ill-advised decision to remain independent. But the Big Ten is a major conference (okay, it’s probably the #4 big conference, behind the Big 12, SEC, and PAC-10, in that order, at least this year), and Michigan is one of the larger colleges in the world. Get it together, Wolverines – you’re embarrassing your great tradition…

UPDATE 7:42 p.m.: Okay, how about:

3. Speaking of overrated, my #7 Red Raiders, 20+ point favorites, scraped by 37-31 over Nebraska at home, in overtime, despite the best efforts of the Tech kicker to give the game away (late in regulation, an extra point that hit the upright and had a most fortunate bounce in; in overtime, an extra point that was low and grazed, and fell way short)…

UPDATE 10/12/08 1:54 p.m.: Well, that’s what you get for squeaking by a big underdog at home…despite losses by #1, #3, and #4 from last week’s poll, in the just-released new AP poll, Tech stays at #7, behind three teams that have a loss already. Texas leapfrogs all the way to #1, and OU drops to #4, with Oklahoma State surging to #8, meaning that 4 of the top 8 teams are in the Big 12 South!…
