Thursday Morning Fun – Waiting On The Plumber Edition

Well, I’m about to get a rude surprise, no doubt, when the plumber gets to my house and presents the estimate to fix my bathtub faucet, so let me try to keep my spirits up by engaging in a little YouTube fun…this one is the priceless tongue-in-cheek country parody by the great Rolling Stones, Far Away Eyes, from the Some Girls album.  Despite the mocking tone of Mick’s delivery and lyrics, the warm feeling the Stones have for the classic country sound of pedal steel guitar still shines through, making this song the rare parody that lifts up and tears down simultaneously…so if you’re down on your luck, and life ain’t worth a dime, get a girl with…well, you know what kind of eyes she got!…

  • See, and here I thought this was going to be a post on the idiotic decision by Pajamas Media to send “Joe” the “Plumber” to Gaza as a war correspondent.

  • Was that Pajamas Media? I saw the headline, but I didn’t read the details…

Mark: do yourself a favor and learn how to do a little simple plumbing. Fixing a faucet is not a big deal, even if that means replacing the darn thing. Of course if you are renting then nevermind, make the landlord pay, but if not, get yourself a few tools that will pay for themselves with the savings from your first diy repair.

On the PJ Media Joe the Plumber thing – you don’t want to know the details, they’ll just annoy the hell out of you…

  • Steve, believe me, I watched the plumber today, and I couldn’t have done it. There were some broken parts involved already from my attempt to fix it. I have zero mechanical aptitude…

Oh, alright then, you sound like my dad. You should definitely stay away from electrical stuff then; if you screw up the plumbing things get wet, if you screw up electricity, people could die!

  • No doubt – I once grabbed a live air conditioner fuse because a fuse box in my old apartment was mislabeled – when the repairman got there he said I was lucky I didn’t get hurt or killed…

However, having watched the plumber today, maybe – just maybe – I would be able to do the repair next time, since I know a little more now…

Incidentally, the repair was, surprisingly, fairly priced, so I got a nice surprise on the upside…

The first time I saw the Stones was in the Some Girls tour. Stevie Wonder was opening act (and Stevie and Mick did the encore together). Maybe the second best concert I ever saw. (Only because nothing compares with seeing George, Ringo, Bob, and Eric at the Bangladesh concert). What a show. They really are the World’s Greatest Rock’n'Roll Band.

  • I have an amusing anecdote about the ‘78 show at Anaheim Stadium in California that I’ll have to share sometime…I was only ten years old, and I didn’t go the to show, but I got closer than I wanted to…

  • Go the to…? Try go to the…
