Oscar Night
No liveblogging this year – I’m just not that into you – but a few thoughts. It’s shaping up to be a “Slumdog” night, based on the early awards. I had thought “Benjamin Button” might win Best Picture, because of a bit of Indian backlash against “Slumdog”, but that’s not the way the wind is blowing. Only major acting award so far went to the beautiful Penelope Cruz for Vicky Cristina Barcelona…
UPDATE 9:11 p.m.: As was universally recognized even as soon as news of Heath Ledger’s death broke, his Joker from The Dark Knight wins him a posthumous Oscar for Best Supporting Actor…
UPDATE 9:18 p.m.: I’m very happy that Man On Wire won Best Documentary – if you haven’t seen it, put it in your Netflix queue right this minute – it’s an extraordinary story of an extraordinary man…
UPDATE 10:22 p.m.: Best Director goes to Danny Boyle, meaning “Slumdog” is a shoe-in for Best Picture…
UPDATE 10:37 p.m.: No surprise, as Kate Winslet wins Best Actress…
UPDATE 10:47 p.m.: What a surprise – Sean Penn goes political in accepting Best Actor – who would’ve thunk it?…
UPDATE 10:56 p.m.: Well, that’s that – it was a Slumdog night, all right…

I have enjoyed the Oscar’s so far, but may have to give it up and read the rest or hear the rest in the news or on your blog. As you know, I haven’t seen any of the movies.
The Academy goes political in giving the award to Sean Penn . . .
Penn is a sometimes fine actor who thinks WAY too much of himself…
Sean Penn is a fine, no, excellent actor. His personal douchebaggery skills are equally superior. Perhaps his real-life insufferableness is part and parcel of his movie making excellence?
Glad to see Gran Torino got its share of the pie. Slum Dog was good but way over hyped. Its all highschool awards anyway.
I didn’t think Gran Torino was even nominated for anything — a travesty! (but expected for the similiar reasons that Sean Penn got the Oscar)
